Upgrades to items allow players to boost the gear score of an item upgrading up to 700, and then add an additional perk. Items can be upgraded if they are in your inventory and you bring them to the Kiln.

Certain items can be upgraded for their unique stats (like a perfectly rolled breakpoint armour used in melee PvP) while other items, such as weapons do not vary greatly post upgrade and thus aren't worth upgrading.

Weapons

Weapons can be upgraded to increase their numeric stats such as the chance to crit, attack damage, PvE and damage to PvP. Weapons also have a flat bonus which increases the damage they deal per second. In addition, many weapons have a set bonus which is activated when three or more of the same weapon are present on a unit. In certain instances, this bonus can add up to more than the amount of damage that a weapon can sustain on its own.

The cost of upgrading a weapon is contingent on its rarity and current level. For example, an +2 weapon requires two standard Smithing Stones while a+3 requires four. The number of stones required to upgrade item a gun will increase until it needs an upgrade to a higher level of Smithing Stones. At that point, it will reset back to one.

Upgrades to weapons also reroll the stats of the base. This is generally a positive thing, but it can also have negative effects. Upgrades can make items unusable, unless you are exceptionally lucky.

Armor items can be upgraded to improve their performance. For example, if you upgrade chests or helms this will increase the defense of its base, while a belt and gloves will increase their strength and dexterity. Armor offers a rerolling option for its Enhanced Defense percent. This means that it may reroll down to a lower value.

The upgrade template of a weapon will show the new stats it will gain after upgrading, as well as the relative value of those stats. This means that a change from an 8 attack-damage sword to an 11 attack-damage sword will result in a weapon receiving an attack damage of 3. The 3% difference does not mean that the weapon will hit 3 times less, as it is an absolute number.

Rerolling a weapon is possible by pressing the green button in the item menu with the arrows that are circling. The item will be rerolled and alter its stats however, it will not reset the weapon's level or bind to account status.

Armor

A few armor upgrades can make the world of difference in your ability to survive. Certain sets can provide MASSIVE increases in resistance to poison, curses, fire, and magic. This makes it easier to get through difficult terrains. Generally speaking, the more defense your character has the more value you will get from every point of health therefore it is important to improve your armor as much as possible.

To upgrade your armor, head to any of the Great Fairy Fountains in the game. There are four fountains in all, and each requires you to complete a unique side quest that involves the Stable Trotters musical troupe. Once you've completed the main quest and the associated fountains, you'll be able to talk to any Great Fairy in order to unlock the menu for upgrading armor.

The amount of materials needed to upgrade each piece of armor will vary. In general, you'll be looking at anything from three to ten Red Chuchu Jellies and 10 Rupees for the first upgrade, and then anywhere from five Rubies and ten Fire-Breath Lizalfos Horns for each subsequent one. The Champion Leathers, for example, can be upgraded to a +5 defense rating, which allows you to remain competitive in frigid environments with a lot of enemies. The Snowquill Headdress, on the other hand, can be upgraded to +20 defense to ensure you're able to survive a battle with your comrades.

Be aware that armor can't be upgraded in the same manner as weapons, so you'll have to concentrate on upgrading it for physical power if you're a Warrior or Spell Power in the case of Mage. It's also worthwhile to save your armor upgrades for armor you'll wear at the end of the game, like the Ring of Lightning and Spectral Shield, or the helmet you'll wear for the final boss fight and the Monter Parts Merchant's mask.

You can also unlock some benefits to your armor by presenting the jeweler at Gerudo Town 10 Twinkling Titanite. In general, you should keep these upgrades for the weapon you'll be using to beat the game, like the Longsword, Battleaxe or Warhammer however, it could be beneficial to have a few upgrades of the helmets and chest armor that allow you to stealth around certain monsters.

Potions

Potions are liquids that when consumed by a player, give the player with a temporary effect for a short period of time. There are five kinds of potions, each with a specific set of effects and durations. Some potions can be upgraded to increase their level of effectiveness. Additionally the effects of some potions can be enhanced by adding glowstone dust or redstone to them.

Potion upgrades cost a specific amount of XP. These can be earned by making them using a craft table or the Alchemist's chest. However, the upgrade price will vary based on the type of potion you'd like to upgrade, and also on the item upgrader kit (sneak a peek here)'s Mark Level and rarity.

To upgrade a potion, right-click it in your inventory. Then select "Upgrade" from the menu. This will open a GUI which allows you to select the potion you want to upgrade and the amount of experience they'll offer when upgraded. You can upgrade potions in batches of up to five at a time and their XP will be added to the total amount of XP you have.

Once a potion is upgraded, it won't degrade until you use it again or break the bottle it's stored in. You can also rename the potion by clicking on it in your inventory.

There were a few updates to potion mechanics in version 1.7.2. For instance, splash potions now have a duration of 0:08 (this is not the same as the 22.5 seconds shown on the hover display for the item). The potion table is now crafted from four Wood Planks, and two Glass. This allows it to be utilized by players playing Survival and Bedrock. Bedrock Edition potions aren't compatible with cauldrons, unlike Java Edition. The same applies to using a potion in a cauldron that is full. This will drain the potion, and refill the bottle.

In addition, there are simmering potions that are made using dragon breath and splash potions. In the same way, a lingering potion can be enhanced by adding redstone. The table of potions is laid out more in line with the Java Edition, and new potions were added such as potion of leaping, decomposition potion, as well as turtle master potions.

Trinkets

Players should upgrade their most important items first. This typically means the top-of-the-line items for their class, then their secondaries and then other items of gear will not be replaced soon (for instance, a ring or cloak). When deciding on which items to upgrade, players should also consider their class's preferred statistics. For example, if Haste and Crit are the two most important stats for a tank it is recommended that they upgrade their helm, chest shoulders, belt, and chest.

Trinkets can be upgraded to a higher ilvl after they are no longer useful and the new trinket can be upgraded to have an additional bonus of 1% for upgrading. However, a re-upgrade can destroy the old trinket, unless it is salvaged with the Black Lion Salvage Kit or an additional salvage tool of higher quality. This means upgrading trinkets is more expensive than other upgrades, yet is still cheaper than purchasing the new one.
