The best robot hoover can mop and vacuum without needing your attention. It leaves your floors spotless. Its surprisingly affordable price and top-of-the-line features (such as dirt detection) are a plus.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive sibling the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums that we have test. They are equipped with motors that are top of the quality and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. Similar to other iRobots that are premium (including the top model) they employ smart mapping to create detailed floorplans that avoid obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also come with a feature called Carpet Boost that increases its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our tests on floors that are bare, and they're particularly adept in removing pet hair. They do have some flaws however, which prevent them from being our top option. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is its navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to get stuck on socks and shoes and could not navigate rooms with lots of people well during our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera that would let it see the corners of an area.

Still, it's very good for those who want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. Additionally, it's quiet and can be used while you're at work, or going to school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle, however. If you need to clean the mopping pad, it can be swapped for one that is wet in just a few just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its smart cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean, and efficient in tackling larger particles such as pet hair. It also features a powerful suction and self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, but it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This highly efficient mop and vacuum combination utilizes advanced sensors to dodge obstacles and pet waste and it learns the layout of your home over time for more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average when compared to similar models.

You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when it's in a carpeted area which prevents cross-contamination. The flex arm can be utilized to reach under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. However, it's not equipped with the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ as well as the iRobot Combo j9+.

In tests during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete an entire home, and it did so with 66 percent of its battery left. It did a decent cleaning job on various flooring and rooms with different kinds of flooring, including some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was excellent and it stayed clear of fake dog turds and socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums it, something we've not seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant circular design that appears more like a normal Roomba than the competitors' boxes This robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most attractive designs in our reviews. iRobot's latest flagship model also happens to be its smartest, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's also the only robot vacuum or mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is due to the combination of high-tech sensors including a structured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to use. It comes with an intuitive mobile application interface and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only downside is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This can be a problem in mornings prior to work or during the night when you're trying to sleep.

It's also quite expensive but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally powerful and more attractive. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable however it's going to cost you more and make more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum mop cleaner robot and mop with a variety of sophisticated features that let you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine like Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, and washes and drys mop pads.

The smart robot employs an array of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and identify obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its more expensive competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time but this was not foolproof in our testing and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its auto vacuum and mop has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to get the job done. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house in accordance with how dirty they are.

If you have a bigger home, it is worth selecting a model with a spot or zone cleaning mode. This lets you instruct the robot on which part of your home must be cleaned with the help of an app or voice control. A stair mode can be useful if you own a large furniture. Additionally a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to continue where it left off is ideal for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you'd expect from its price tag. It vacuums well and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad and a reciprocating movement that is more efficient than most of the robot cleaner with mop mop cleaners that we've examined. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self emptying base that is washable.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through an initial mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, arrange an area for cleaning or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to ensure better performance. The app has a range of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it can reach corners and underneath furniture more easily. It has an impressive 8,000 Pascal suction, as well as intelligent combs to remove pet hair. You can also create a spot-cleaner which will thoroughly clean an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble cute little eyes. It is capable of vacuuming but is more prone to getting caught on low thresholds and is more noisy than the other top robotic vacuums we've tried. It also has a less intuitive app and a small base station that can't be used as an emptying bin.
