The authors argue that these characteristics can help make pragmatic trials more effective and relevant to everyday clinical practice, however they don't necessarily mean that a trial conducted in a pragmatic manner is free from bias. The pragmatism principle is not a fixed characteristic and a test that does not have all the characteristics of an explicative study can still produce valuable and valid results.
