However, they do have a few flaws however, which hinder them from being our first option. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks and can't navigate tight spaces very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't come with an image sensor that lets it see the corners of an area.

Still, it's very good, especially if you want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot, and you have a bare-floored home or office. It's also extremely quiet and works when you're at work or school. The only thing it doesn't have that you don't get in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has an auto-emptying dock, however. If you want to, you can swap the mopping pad to dry ones in a matter of minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that can also mop floors. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and effective at dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also comes with self-emptying dustbins, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, but it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensor technology that can keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time and offer more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average in comparison to similar models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can tell it to remove and extend its mop. This can help avoid cross-contamination. It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically emptys into its base, and also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums, a feature that we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combos.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

The robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular look that looks much like a Roomba model than the bulky models from the competition. It's among our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is its most advanced model, with features that are cutting-edge like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum to score an exemplary 10/10 in our testing, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has an intuitive mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's a noisy unit that could be a problem if you run it in the morning prior to work, or at night when you attempt to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, but it's not as pricey as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally capable and better-looking. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable, but it's going to cost you more and create more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot vacuum and mop. It has a range of features that are advanced and will help you forget your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine that is similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the vacuum's bin, refills the water tank, and cleans and dry mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and spot obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its competitors with premium features. It also comes with a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time but this was not foolproof in our testing and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has an attribute known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas in the house depending on how dirty these areas are.

If you own a larger home, you should consider choosing a model that has spot or zone cleaning mode. This allows you to inform the robot of which area of your home must be cleaned using the app or voice command. If you have a lot of furniture, a stairway mode is also useful. For busy families recharge functions and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to resume where it left off can be very beneficial.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you might expect from its price tag. It does a stellar job cleaning, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with a single pad that uses an oscillating motion that is cleaner than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tested. And it's highly self-sufficient with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate a mapping run, which gathers information on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or to create the spot-cleaning. It can also be used to it to prioritize your dirtiest areas to improve performance. The app also provides access to many features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning robot mop and vacuum.

It is also able to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for pet hair. You can also create a spot-cleaner that thoroughly cleans an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras appear like cute eyes. It does a good job vacuuming, but is more prone to get caught on low thresholds and is a bit more noisy than the other top robotic vacuums we've examined. It also has a less user-friendly app and a small base station that can't be used as a bin for emptying.
