Upgrades can increase the value of armors, weapons and rings. Upgrades can also boost bonuses like Crit chance and damage from PvE.

For example, a weapon with the upgrade template that ends in % will gain 3damage to attack each time it upgrades (relative to its previous value).

Components

Upgrade components can be added to trinkets, weapons and armor to provide them with a boost in stats or to add an additional effect. They can be obtained by crafting, purchasing from vendors trading, or looting. Certain upgrades also come with special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be inserted into equipment that has a slot to accommodate them; the item must be at a minimum upgraded to blue level for a component to be used. In contrast to other mods components can only be used one time; they cannot be applied multiple times or replaced by new upgrades. Infusions and Enrichments are a type of upgrade component that can be used to upgrade non-amulet legendary or ascending equipment, as as some non-ascended items. Enrichments and Infusions can be obtained by salvaging equipment from the ascended state or completing a mission in the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.

An upgrade could have a prefix or suffix that alters the name of the equipment with which it is used (for instance "Canthan Armor Insignia" becomes Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades boost an item's Mark Level, or Rarity, allowing players create stronger versions of that equipment that require fewer Upgrade Crystals than would be required to reach the same level of upgrade through normal methods.

A boost upgrade can alter the defense or attack properties of a weapon, or armor. After the player has completed the cutscene and defeated Crazed Mechanist the upgrades can be crafted at the Portative Forging Station. These upgrades are available for purchase them from the cash shop or collecting them from enemies when upgrading other equipment.

The player can have up to five boost upgrades at one time. Each upgrade increases the chance that a higher-level version of the item will appear at the time of the next reset. This gives the player an incentive to keep upgrading their gear, even if they're unsure of the extent to which it will increase after a future reset.

The process of upgrading an item can be costly and it's possible that the item will become obsolete, or even break, when the upgrade fails. Upgrade Crystals and assist powder are also destroyed when an upgrade fails. Cash shop items can be used to reduce or eliminate the chance of failure. Some upgrades also offer an additional bonus when reinserted.

Glyphs

Glyphs can be used to upgrade the Paragon Board by placing them in sockets that are specifically designed for. Glyphs increase the effectiveness of all nodes in their radius and include pre-existing affixes to equipment. Glyphs can be upgraded various ways, and we recommend getting them up to level 15 as soon as you can.

In the endgame you'll often discover that the most effective way to upgrade your equipment is to use Glyphs. They are the only upgrade component that can be upgraded straight to level 15, and they provide significant boosts to your power and radius on the Paragon Board, enabling you to get higher nodes more quickly.

Most of the upgrades in the game can be replaced, but Glyphs are the only upgrade component that can be removed and replaced without restriction. Only legendary equipment can be salvaged and re-placed by using the help of a Black Lion Salvage Kit.

The value of each Glyph is displayed when you choose it in your inventory. You can replace it with a Glyph that is of the same or higher rank to increase the value of the Glyph.

You can find Glyphs in the Black Lion Trading Post, as part of an Gem Store purchase or bundle with certain unlimited-use gathering tools, and through Faction Crypt raids. Every Faction Crypt can drop one of these Glyphs. There are also some rare glyphs which you can find in any of the Faction Crypts.

Once you have obtained the desired Glyphs you'll require them to be put on your equipment. Each Glyph will grant a distinct bonus that boosts the stats of a specific set of nodes that are within a radius of the Glyph. It could be +40 for one of your primary stats or +25 for two of your secondary stats depending on the Glyph.

Glyphs will boost all nodes that are connected to them, so it is Best item upgrader to place Glyphs in key spots on the Graph. This will maximize the impact. Druids, for example should put their Glyphs close to their primary damage nodes. They might be able to place them near their primary damage nodes.

Leveling

The item upgrading system lets players increase the performance of specific items by putting upgraded components in them. This is often referred to as "upping". Each upgradeable item has an amount, which determines its final upgraded stats. Upgraded items can be upgraded to a maximum of ilvl 385. Each item level requires a different number of components to reach and the cost of upgrading increase as the item is leveled up.

Some upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient can be obtained by making Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be bought from NPCs, or on the upgrade tab of a crafting table. Each Upgrade Recipe completed will result in a certain amount of Technology points. These points can be used for leveling up an item. When enough points have been earned you'll be able to claim your upgrade and also receive the bonuses.

When an item is upgraded by a player to a higher level, the original item is replaced by a new item of the same type. If an item does not upgrade the amount of experience in its growth bar is reset to zero. In addition the item will lose any bonus it earned such as crit chance and attack damage, as well as any other effects that are associated with that effect (for instance, an increase in heal over time or the speed of reloading). However, the player can continue to use the weapon or armor after the failure.

When an Best item upgrade is upgraded, the upgrades are applied from lowest to highest. This means that the weapon that is upgraded increases its crit chance it will be applied before any attack damage increases.
