Upgrades to items are a frequent and essential way to boost the performance of a variety of items in Path of Exile. They can be a good source of damage and more AD or even more attaches.

In most cases, however upgraded Common and Magic gear is beaten out by Rare-grade gear due to their high requirements.

Armor

Armor upgrades are a form of upgrade that can be used on armor and weapon items. They increase the effectiveness of the item that they are attached to. Armor upgrades are available in the world of the game and purchased from Blacksmiths on bonfires. Alternately, they can be salvaged from items that have upgrade components inside them, with a professional or higher salvage kit.

The level of an armor's or weapon's upgrade determines the amount of damage it will absorb. A piece of armor upgraded to its highest upgrade level will boost its damage absorption. However, it's important note that this will also increase its weight, causing it to weigh more than before.

There are a few different kinds of armor upgrades available in the game, and they all have distinct effects. For example, some upgrades will give the armor a certain number of health points while others make it lighter and stronger. The name of the upgrade will tell you the kind of upgrade the Item Upgrader mod (maps.google.Cv) can receive, as shown below.

Certain upgrades require magic or a combination of technology and magic, which are indicated by the "Magic" and "Hybrids" entries in the table below. Additionally, some upgrades require charges to use, which is identified by a "Charges" entry in the table below. The charges associated with these upgrades are updated every day or never expire, according to the upgrade.

The cheapest method of upgrading armor is by using Iron Ore, which can be gathered by exploring the environment and looting minor loot chests. Titanium is more expensive but it can be obtained from the smelters in Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Weapons

Weapon upgrades allow players to improve the effectiveness of certain aspects of an weapon. Upgrades can increase the accuracy of a rifle, or the damage that shotgun shells do. Certain firearms also have upgrades that improve their innate qualities. Frictionless materials (improves stability, and reduces the possibility of overheating), and Kinetic coils (increases the projectile's acceleration to cause more damage) are two examples.

Most upgrades for weapons require one of three Power Dices, a different amount of Minerals and Erons and a whetblade for applying. These can be obtained by doing side quests, or taking out a certain number of monsters or bosses, or from the Weapon Upgrade NPC in Central Flarine.

Upgrades to a weapon, equipment Set piece, or Whetblade requires visiting the NPC [Armor] Boboko in Central Flarine and paying her an upgrade fee of a certain number of Bars. The higher the upgrade level, the higher the number of bars required to complete it. The cost of the upgrades will be lower if have more than one of the relevant upgrade item materials.

In Chapter 2: Season 5, the method of upgrading your weapon and equipment sets changed a little. Players should also upgrade the weapons that their teammates use to make them stronger. Shepard for instance, should upgrade the M92F in order to unlock the Beretta M93R. This will increase the effectiveness of the weapon when used in conjunction with biotic specialists like Grunt and Tali.

Jewels

Jewels are used in the sockets of armor and weapons, increasing the stats of a weapon and providing additional effects. They can be created using the process of jewelry crafting, in which you combine a gem with several reagents at a jewelry table. The higher the level of the gemstone, the better the secondary effect. These reagents can be obtained around the world through Treasure Goblins, World Bosses and sometimes by salvaging Legendary equipment. You can also buy them from The Jeweler for gold and a Scattered Prism.

The Jeweler can improve the quality of gemstones in stages ranging from Crude up to Royal. Based on the tier of the jewel, it will provide a different stat boosts when inserted into weapons, equipment and jewelry.

The Jeweler is able to create all kinds of gems, except for the rare and legendary ones which require a certain level to get. Like other upgrade components jewels are able to be swapped with another identical jewel without destroying it. You are able to replace the jewel only once in a piece of equipment.

It is typical to use more jewels to enhance the appearance of. The jewels can also enhance performance and make a surface harder than steel so that repeated friction caused by pivots does not damage them.

A Glyphmaster can provide glyphs that can enhance the look of your shields and weapons. These glyphs provide a small boost and can be swapped, but they are not guaranteed to show up as loot. Glyphs are upgradeable, like jewelry, at the Jeweler for gold and Scattered Crystal. Glyphs can also be taken out and returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components, such as aegis or traits cannot be exchanged and can only be found with an Upgrade extractor or salvaging with Black Lion Salvage Kit or an Ascended Salvage.

Trinkets

Trinkets are a great way to give your character various small, but beneficial advantages. They can be obtained in the areas of starting as loot, personal story rewards, from vendors, and through performing road interactions. They can also be crafted by jewelers and later found or purchased at the Trading Post.

The first trinkets that a player is able to unlock is the cloak, which gives a small, but valuable boost in speed of movement and the ability to escape. The player will then be able to acquire rings, amulets and necklaces in a similar manner to how they acquired weapons and armor. Each piece of equipment comes with an upgrade slot that is either universal or jewel. Universal upgrades offer smaller bonuses and can be put into any type of equipment, however, jewelry cannot be replaced or upgraded, and is only compatible with certain kinds of trinkets.

These trinkets can provide additional bonuses and abilities that are active even when the hero isn't engaged in combat. This allows the hero to perform better when they are not active and may also help make up for a lack of a strong team or the absence of any slots in the talent tree that would normally be filled with the hero's best stats.

As a rule, trinket upgrades should prioritize BiS (Best item upgrader in Slot) items you won't replace in the near future. Then, you should consider any items with desirable stats that aren't as important as the iLevel for the item to be upgraded. This is particularly true if an item has multiple stats you wish to upgrade, since it's generally more beneficial to upgrade one important stat than two sub-optimal ones.

Jungle players usually upgrade items their yellow trinkets to a red one prior to the start of the game. Top and mid players on the other hand, will choose a pink or green ward, depending on the game's matchup. These choices will have a major impact on the hero's abilities to control maps.

In addition to the items mentioned above, players will also find other trinkets in the form trophies and rewards throughout the game. They can be earned by completing certain milestones in the story, for instance finishing a chapter's main quest or destroying a boss.
