Upgrades can boost the stats of a piece of equipment and, sometimes, even add extras. The worth of these upgrades is determined by their tiers, requirements and the amount of random augmentations applied.

For example, the elite racial shield Razortail is usually upgraded to improve its lightning absorb ability in PvP or to add additional defenses to missile-based designs in PvM. This makes it more exchangeable than the non-upgraded perfect version.

Reroll Tokens

Reroll tokens permit you to reroll a purchased item, such as armor, weapon, or ring. This replaces the item upgrade with an identical item and comes with different benefits. Reroll tokens can be an economical method of upgrading equipment. However, they don't retain the quality of the original item and any resources wasted aren't refunded.

Survivors may acquire reroll tokens by a variety of means such as the Mistery Box or as rare drops from skulled creatures. They can be found in crates and chests or bought from the store for 150k each. Reroll tokens are used to change the attribute of an item upgrades of equipment such as increasing its damage.

Items with upgraded base stats will display an icon of blue in their slot. Upgrade components, unlike enchantments can't be applied to more than one item at a time. For example, the helm upgrade "Foundation of the Sun" boosts the base defense, and adds an extra 20% chance to block. In addition, the dps upgrade "Wildfire" boosts weapon damage.

Upgrades can be beneficial to certain items, but they are not because they increase stats. They are more valuable to players if they can get a perfect roll. A perfectly rolled 200/6500 armor set piece, for example is highly sought-after by the melee PvP communities and could be worth up to 20-50 times the non-upp’d version.

When you choose an upgrade component to slot into an item the game will show an open window that displays the necessary requirements. These include the item type (either weapon or armor), the tier of the item and the Upgrade Token required, and the amount of progress needed to complete the upgrade.

The game will place an item in your inventory once you've fulfilled the requirements for an upgrade. The progress bar will update to show you how close to getting the upgrade completed. You can also verify the status of an upgrade by visiting any upgrader NPC for the item you want to upgrade.
