Item upgrades are a way to boost the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade it could boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity, as well as boost other stats.

Each item has a track to upgrade it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next item by a certain amount.

There are several theories about how the calculation of an item's level is carried out. Item Stats

The item's stats can make or break an item for players. The game uses them in various ways to encourage players not to limit themselves to a single weapon and to encourage them to try out other weapons. The stat mods of weapons boost base stats. These stat mods are then increased by a player's level.

The upgrades to an item can increase the stats of an item. The cost of upgrades is determined by the rarity of the item. For instance, a grey or white item can only be upgraded once, whereas items with rare levels will be upgraded multiple times with higher prices.

Players can upgrade an item by a specific stat, or reroll attaches. The range of stats determined by the item upgrader's level. However, all items will include at least one stat in the range, unless they are an item that is unique, or a God Roll from a boss in a raid.

This is another thing that could be altered by adding the option to upgrade the equipment without rolling the affixes or choosing which stats to boost. Similar to the base equipment, this will have to be done per item and the interface for item comparison wouldn't display all possible stats simultaneously.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player stacks up to increase the chances of finding items and the properties that are spawned from loot drops and the intensity of the properties. However, it doesn't directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players an opportunity to get better gear earlier in the game. This is especially useful in the early game, because players tend to put the scaling of weapons and defenses over raw damage gains.

Luck can also boost the chances of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade probability which increases with each item level and can be further enhanced through the use of an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

The shields, armor and weapons have the default Luck value of 40. These items can then be enhanced with golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to give +40 Luck or to boost the existing Luck of an item, up to 140.

Moreover there are certain items, such as the Hollow weapon that is infused with hollow can be used to increase the damage dealt by any damage-dealing skill by five percent. These items can be purchased in the shop or made using the correct ingredients.

Item Failure

Upgrades to items are expensive and not all upgrades will succeed. However, there are some cash shop items that allow players to boost their success rate or prevent them from losing an item in the event that the upgrade fails.

When you upgrade an item, the rate of success is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the likelihood of successfully upgrading an item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations to how much the success rates can be improved and the chance of an upgrade failing can't exceed 100%.

The Luck of an item may influence the effectiveness of an upgrade. All items have an average success rate of 25 percent and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by five percent.

Note that upgrades to items are rendered above the items in the inventory which means that enchantment glints and other effects could be obstructed by them.
