Upgrades to items are a frequent and essential way to boost the performance of a variety of items in Path of Exile. They can provide extra damage, AD or even affixes.

Rare-grade equipment can be superior to the more modernized Common or Magic equipment because of their high requirements.

Armor

Armor upgrades are a type of upgrade that can be used on armor and weapon items. They boost the performance of the item upgrader mod (relevant internet page) they are connected to. Armor upgrades are found in the world of the game and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at any bonfire. Additionally, they can be salvaged from items that have upgrade components within them by using an expert or greater salvage kit.

The level of an armor's or weapon's upgrade determines the amount of damage it will take on. Upgrading a piece of armor to maximum upgrade level will increase its damage absorption. It's important to remember that this will increase the weight of the armor, therefore it must be more heavy.

There are a few different kinds of armor upgrades that are available in the game and they all have distinct effects. Some upgrades give armor a greater number of health points while others make it more powerful and lighter. The kind of armor upgrade an item upgrade can receive will be indicated by the name of the upgrade as shown in the table below.

Certain upgrades require magic or a hybrid technology and magic, which is shown by the "Magic" and "Hybrids" entries in the table below. Certain upgrades require charges in order to be used. They are referred to as "Charges" entries in the table. The charges for these upgrades refresh every day or never expire, depending on the upgrade.

The cheapest way to upgrade armor is by using Iron Ore, which can be gathered by exploring the environment and looting minor loot chests. Upgrading a piece of armor to the highest upgrade level will significantly boost its defense but the wearer must be aware that increasing its weight can drastically decrease its agility and speed. This is why it is typically not recommended to upgrade the majority of armor pieces above +9, because the increase in defense is usually not worth the weight and power costs of the upgrades required.

Weapons

Weapon upgrades allow players to enhance certain aspects of their weapon. Upgrades can increase the accuracy of a rifle, or the damage that shotgun shells do. Certain weapons also come with upgrades that enhance their inherent qualities. Frictionless materials (improves stability, minimizes weapon overheating) and Kinetic coils (increases the projectile's acceleration to cause more damage) are two examples.

Most weapon upgrades require three Power Dices, a different amount of Minerals and Erons and a whetblade to apply. They can be obtained by completing side quests or by killing a certain number of bosses and monsters.

To upgrade an equipment set, weapon piece or Whetblade You must go to the NPC [ArmorBoboko. Boboko located in Central Flarine, and pay her an upgrade fee that is a certain amount of bars. The more bars needed to complete an upgrade, the more expensive the upgrade. If you have multiple upgrade materials the cost of upgrading will be less.

In Chapter 2: Season 5 the way you upgrade your weapon and equipment sets has changed. Before you could search for an Upgrade Bench and pay a certain amount of Bars to upgrade your equipment or weapon to a higher rarity. You could do this until the weapon or equipment reached its maximum upgrade level, at which point the upgrades would reset.

It's possible, but it relies heavily on RNG. You're better off buying gear with low upgrade levels and high base scores and stat distributions. They will also have a better chance of bringing you the best tier of benefits and blessings.

The majority of players will prioritize weapon upgrades for the weapons they are most likely to use to make sure they are able to level up faster. Jewels

The Jeweler can enhance the quality of the gem in stages that range from Crude up to Royal. Based on the tier of the gem it can provide different stat boosts when inserted into weapons, gear and jewelry.

The Jeweler is able to create all kinds of gems, with the exception of rare and legendary ones that require a certain level to get. Jewels can be replaced with another one without damaging the original. You are able to replace the jewel once in an item of equipment.

It is common to use more jewels for aesthetic reasons. The jewels can also enhance performance and make a harder surface than steel, so that the repeated friction from pivots do not damage them.

In addition to the upgrades mentioned above players can also get glyphs for their shields and weapons from a Glyphmaster. These glyphs provide a small boost in power and can be swapped, but they are not guaranteed to be available as loot. Glyphs, like jewelry, can be upgraded by the Jeweler in exchange for gold and Scattered Crystals. Glyphs can also be removed and returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components such as aegis or traits cannot be exchanged, and can only be found through an upgrade extractor or salvaging using Black Lion Salvage Kit, or Ascended Salvage tool.

Trinkets

Trinkets are a great way to provide your hero with various small, but beneficial, advantages. They are available in the start-up area as rewards for personal stories or loot. They are also available from vendors as well as through the completion of road interactions. They can also be found on the Trading Post, or crafted by jewelers.

The first trinket players will unlock is the cloak. It grants a small but valuable boost in movement speed and the ability to evade. Then, they can purchase amulets, rings and necklaces in a similar fashion to how the player acquires weapons and armor. Each piece of gear comes with one upgrade slot that can accept either a universal or a jewel upgrade. Universal upgrades offer smaller bonuses and can be put into any type of equipment, while jewelry cannot be replaced or upgraded and is only compatible with certain types of trinkets.

These trinkets provide additional buffs and abilities that are active even when the hero isn't engaged in combat. This allows the hero to become more efficient even when not in combat. It also helps compensate for the absence of excellent slots in the team or talent tree which are usually filled by a hero's top stats.

As a rule trinket upgrades should be a priority BiS (Best item upgrade in Slot) items that you will not replace soon. Also, consider items that have desirable statistics are less significant than the iLevel of the item to be upgraded. This is especially true if an item has multiple stats that you wish to upgrade, as it's often more beneficial to upgrade one important stat rather than two sub-optimal ones.

In the beginning of the game players in the jungle are likely to upgrade their yellow trinket to a red, while top and middle players typically choose a green or pink ward (depending on the matchup). These choices will have a significant impact on the hero's abilities to control maps.

In addition to the items mentioned above, players can find a number of other trinkets in the game in the form of trophies and awards. They can be earned by completing certain milestones within the story, such as the main quest of a chapter or killing a certain boss. These achievements can be seen by selecting the appropriate achievement in the reward tab of the hero menu.
