Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very good robot vacuum scores in our floor tests that test for bare floors They're also particularly adept in removing pet hair. They do have some flaws however, which prevent them from being our top choice. One of the Q5's shortcomings is its navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to get stuck on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very well during our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera that would let it see the corners of a room.

Still, it's very good for those who want to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and can work while you're at work, or school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with an auto-emptying dock, however. And, if you need to, you can swap the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can mop floors. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it easy to clean and effective at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also comes with self-emptying dustbins with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot vacuum and mop robot vacuum for carpets, although it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time to provide cleaner and more efficient cleaning. You can modify its cleaning schedule and set up zones through the well-designed app. Its battery life is average when compared to other models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to take off and extend its mop. This will help prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm is perfect to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it vacuums. This is a feature we haven't seen before on other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

This mop and vacuum combination has a sleek, circular design that appears more like the regular Roomba unit than the boxy models of the competition. It's one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent and has advanced features like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's the only robot vacuum/mop to score a perfect 10 in our testing, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, including a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has an easy mobile application interface and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This could be a concern in the mornings prior to work or at night when you're trying to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive, although it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are similarly capable and more attractive. If you're willing to put up with a little more noise and some additional cost, this is a very efficient two-in-one device that should please almost everyone.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot vacuum and mop. It has a number of advanced features that help you forget your chores. Similar to Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes the care of mopping and vacuuming, with a multifunction dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, and washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot employs a combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and spot obstacles, navigating more intelligently than some of its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time but this was not reliable in our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has an option known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the home based on how dirty these areas are.

If you have a larger home, it's worth selecting a model with a zones or spot cleaning modes. This allows you to tell the robot which area of your house needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice command. If you have a lot of furniture, a stairway mode is also a good option. For busy families recharge functions and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to resume where it left off could be very useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than the price suggests. It has a great vacuuming performance and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using one pad and a reciprocating motion that is more efficient than most mop cleaners for robots that we've tested. It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and an auto-emptying washable base.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through an initial mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, plan the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritise your dirtiest rooms to improve performance. The app also provides access to a host of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, meaning it is able to reach corners and under furniture more easily. It also has a strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for hair of pets. You can also set up a spot cleaning that intensely cleans a localized area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It's good at vacuuming but is more prone to be caught by low thresholds and is a bit louder than the other top robot cleaner vacuums we've tested. It also comes with an app that's less intuitive and a small base station that does not double as a bin to empty.
