The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests on bare floors and are especially adept in cleaning dog hair. However, they do have a few flaws that keep them from being our top pick. One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to become stuck on socks and shoes, and it couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very efficiently during our tests. It doesn't also have a camera that can see around corners.

However, it's a good choice to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also very quiet and operates when you're at work or in school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't stay on for long and don't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying dock, though. And, if you need to, you can switch the mopping pad to dry ones in a matter of minutes.

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to mop floors. Its smart cleaning maps and nimble navigation make it easy to clean and effective in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with a powerful suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, although it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performing mop and vacuum combo uses advanced sensor technology to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste and it will learn your home's layout over time for more efficient cleaning. The app lets you set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. It has a battery lifespan that is similar to other models.

You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mop and extend them when it's in a carpeted room, which helps prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach under furniture that is low and along baseboards. 3. IRobot Roomba X40

This robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular look that looks more like a regular Roomba unit than the boxy units of the competitors. It is one of our most attractive robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also its smartest. It comes with advanced features, like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's also the sole robot vacuum with mop vacuum/mop to score an absolute 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to the combination of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is easy to use. It comes with a simple mobile application interface and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that it's still quite loud, which can be an issue if you use it in the morning prior to work, or at night when you attempt to sleep.

Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes care of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multifunction dock that automatically empties the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, and washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and spot obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its top competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time detection of hazards, although this wasn't quite foolproof in our testing and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also comes with an attribute known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the home based on how dirty the areas are.

For larger houses it's worth looking for a model that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a particular area of your home via the app or voice commands. A stair mode can be useful if you have a lot furniture. Additionally, a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to continue where it left off is great for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you might imagine from its price. It is a good vacuum cleaner and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion, which is cleaner than the other robot mop cleaners we've tried. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self emptying base that can be washed.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through a mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you set on the map. You can use it to create cleaning robot mop and vacuum schedules, arrange an area for cleaning or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to ensure better performance. The app also provides access to many features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
