Ramon Laguarta (born 1963) is a Spanish-American businessman who serves as the chairman and chief executive officer of PepsiCo, one of the world's largest food and beverage companies.[1] He assumed the CEO role on October 3, 2018, succeeding Indra Nooyi, and became chairman on February 1, 2019.[2] Laguarta is the first Spanish CEO to lead a major American multinational corporation with market capitalization exceeding $200 billion.[3]
Under his leadership, PepsiCo has undergone transformation through the "PepsiCo Positive" (pep+) strategy, repositioning sustainability at the center of the company's business model.[4]
Early life and education
Ramon Laguarta was born in 1963 in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain.[5]
Laguarta pursued his undergraduate and graduate studies at ESADE Business School in Barcelona, completing bachelor's and master's degrees in business administration in 1985.[6] He then completed a Master's degree in International Management at the Thunderbird School of Global Management in Arizona in 1986.[7]
Laguarta speaks six languages fluently: English, Spanish, Catalan, French, German, and Greek.[8]
Career
Early career
After completing his education, Laguarta began his career at Chupa Chups, the Spanish confectionery company.[9]
PepsiCo (1996-present)
In 1996, Laguarta joined PepsiCo in Spain.[10]
He held various leadership positions including CEO of PepsiCo Europe (2012-2015) and CEO of PepsiCo Europe Sub-Saharan Africa (2015-2017).[11]
In September 2017, he was promoted to President of PepsiCo, and in October 2018 became CEO.[12]
Personal life
Laguarta is married to Maria Laguarta. They have three sons and reside in the United States.[13]
