This mop and vacuum combination is sleek and has a circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba model than the boxy units of the competitors. It is one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also its smartest. It comes with advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's the only robotic autonomous vacuum/mop that has 100% in our evaluations thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured lighting system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station and it boasts the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

Its vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for various areas of the home based on how dirty the areas tend to be.

If you have a larger home, it is worth selecting a model with a spot or zone cleaning mode. This lets you tell the robot which area of your home needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice control. A stair mode can be useful if you own a lot furniture. Finally the recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum continue where it left off is great for busy families.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through a mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, set up an area for cleaning or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms for better performance. The app comes with a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
