1. Roomba Q5 Pro
The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've tested. They feature top-of-the-line motors that can produce up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other iRobots with premium features (including the top model) they employ smart mapping to create detailed floorplans and avoid household obstacles like furniture legs. They also have a feature called carpet boost that boosts the robot's performance when it detects the presence of dirt on the carpet to get it cleaned up quickly.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests on floors that were bare and are especially adept in removing dog hair. There are some issues, however, that prevent them from being our first choice. For one, the Q5's navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to getting hung up on shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.
It's still a great deal particularly if your office or home has a lot of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save money. It's also quiet and works when you're at work or school. The only thing it lacks that you don't get in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. And it's less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on very well and can't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 has self-emptying docks, however. If you're required to mop, the mopping pad can be swapped for a wet one in minutes.
2. IRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to sweep floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as quick navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in dealing with larger particles like pet hair. It also has a powerful suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robot vacuum for carpets, although it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensor technology that can keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time and provide cleaner and more efficient cleaning. You can modify its cleaning schedule and set up zones through the well-designed app. Its battery life is average when compared to other models.
You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when it's in a carpeted area, which helps prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm is perfect for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. It's not as efficient on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
In the course of testing, X30 Ultra was the most efficient robot vacuum/mop which could sweep the entire house and had 66 percent of its battery remaining. It also did a great job of cleaning a mix of rooms and floors with various flooring types, such as some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line, and it nimbly avoided fake dog socks, turds and cables.
It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically fills up its base, and also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming, a feature that hasn't been seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.
3. IRobot Roomba X40
With a sleek circular design that looks like a regular Roomba than the competition's compact models, this robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most appealing looking in our tests. The latest model from iRobot is its most advanced model, with features that are cutting-edge like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).
It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to a combination modern sensors, including a restructured light system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.
The X40, like other iRobot products, is simple to use. It has a simple mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This could be a concern in the mornings prior to work or in the evening when you're trying to fall asleep.
It's also quite expensive however, not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing with a bit more noise and a little more cost it's a capable two-in-one that should please almost everyone.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best rated robot vacuum robot vacuum and mop. It has a number of advanced features that make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner, similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum and fills up the water tank, and washes and dries mop pads.
The smart robot makes use of an array of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and spot obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its top competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time hazard detection, although this wasn't quite 100% foolproof during our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.
The vacuum cleaner comes with the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to complete the task. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and also alters the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house in accordance with the amount of dirt they tend to be.
For larger houses, it's worth opting for models with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a specific area of your home by using the app or voice controls. If you have furniture, a stair mode is also useful. Finally the recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue where it left off is great for busy families.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you'd think from its price. It does a stellar job cleaning, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with one pad that has a reciprocating motion that is cleaner than the other robot mop cleaners we've examined. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured application and a self-emptying, washable base.
The iRobot app is designed to guide you through a mapping run that collects data on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, arrange an area for cleaning or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to ensure better performance. The app also provides access to a host of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
It can also reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for hair of pets. And you can set up a spot cleaning that scours a specific area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble cute little eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, but it is more likely to be caught in low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums we have examined. It also comes with an app that's not as intuitive and has a tiny base station that does not double as a bin to empty.
