There are some issues however, which prevent them from being our first choice. For instance, the Q5's navigation doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to getting hung up on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.
It's still a good value for those whose home or office has lots of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save some money. It's also very quiet and operates while you're at work or at school. The only thing it's missing that you don't get in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on well and aren't able to take on dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying dock, though. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, but it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.
This highly efficient combination vacuum and mop uses advanced sensor technology to avoid obstacles and pet waste, and it also learns the layout of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average compared to other models.

This robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba model than the boxy units of the competitors. It's one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is its most advanced and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).
It's the only robot vacuum/mop to score a perfect 10 in our evaluations due to a mix of high-tech sensors, which include a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station and it boasts the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.
Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is easy to use, offering a simple mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in the mornings prior to work or in the evening when you are trying to sleep.
It's also quite expensive, but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally capable and better looking. If you're willing to put up with a bit more noise and some additional cost, this is a very capable two-in-one that should please almost everyone.

It also mopses with a single pad that uses an oscillating motion that cleans better than most of the other robot mop cleaners we've examined. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self emptying, washable base.
The iRobot app is designed to guide you through a mapping run which collects information about your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, set up the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritise your dirtiest rooms to ensure better performance. The app also gives access to a host of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, which means it can get to corners and underneath furniture better. It has an impressive 8000 Pascal suction, as well as clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also set up a spot clean that intensely cleans a localized area.
