1. Roomba Q5 Pro
The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've tested. They feature top-of-the-line motors that can pull up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other premium iRobots (including the top model) they utilize smart mapping to create detailed floorplans that avoid obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also feature a feature called carpet boost that increases the robot's power when it sees an abundance of dirt on the carpet, allowing it clean quickly.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on floors that were bare, and they are particularly adept at cleaning dog hair. They do have some flaws however, which prevent them from being our first choice. For instance, the Q5's navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to become entangled in shoes and socks and can't navigate rooms with a lot of people efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera to look around corners.
It's still a good value, especially if your home or office has a lot of bare floors and you're looking to save money. It's also very quiet and can be used while you're at work or at school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. If you want to, you can switch the mopping pad to a dry one in just a few seconds.
