WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost to specific stats. Each upgrade boosts the item level by +3. Each upgrade also boosts the random substatus.

The upgraded gear typically has a greater value for trade, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or very high stat variance (like the eth titan weapons). Upgrades are less valuable for those with lower requirements due to the requirement to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The item level upgrade upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of armor or weapons. However, the item that is used to upgrade will be consumed forever and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enhancements.

The upgrader is located in all major cities, and can be accessed anytime to upgrade your equipment. To keep your gear up-to-date it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every few weeks.

The cost of upgrades will be based on the current level of the item being upgraded, but will always be less expensive than purchasing new equipment from other sources. For instance upgrading a Benthic chest piece to 385 levels will cost 20 recycle points, while purchasing the same item from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items which can be used to improve the quality of weapons and tools, armor and accessories. They can be bought by players through item upgrader NPCs in exchange for a variety of currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased, it can be applied to any weapon or tool with a button, which will show an item's preview at its next upgrade level in the event that the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrades varies based on the slot of the item and the current level of the item upgrader kit and the weapon's price is higher than gloves or bracers for example. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with certain upgrades having a discount to reduce the cost of the Flightstones or the crests used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain amount it is able to be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lower amount of both currency types.

Upgraders for items are available in many places, including the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon and the chance to obtain a new recipe. The discount for upgrading increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players finish certain achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the start unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. The NPCs who are able to facilitate upgrades are only accessible through a variety means. This is both a positive and a disadvantage.

In Season 3 the upgrade system has been modified a bit, and numerous new features added. After the player has upgraded to a specific level for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same level, will cost less. This is even if those items come from an entirely different set of equipment.

The discount is applicable to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is reduced also, but is only available when certain milestones are achieved.

Crests

When upgrading gear in WoW, players have a few options. Flightstones are an item level upgrade that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more special, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an important element of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System, which was introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

The first thing to be aware of is that crests are only able to be used on equipment that is of a particular rank, and each rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The most basic and straightforward upgrade route costs 15 crests while the more complex one may require as many as 20 crests, based on the type of gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by finishing tasks at the appropriate level. This could be by engaging in outdoor activities or completing dungeons and raids in all difficulty levels to obtain equipment of lower tier or Mythic+ raid bosses or dungeons that have a high difficulty for gear in the endgame. Crests can be exchanged at an upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to get the appropriate upgrade pathways and steps.

Using these new currencies isn't too difficult, but the system introduces some modifications to the upgrade process. When a piece reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it is no longer required to purchase Flightstones. This is to allow players to upgrade their gear up to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

It's also crucial to choose crests with care, since they only have one use. It's Best item upgrader to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the highest-quality gear you can find, and save Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next round of upgrades. This is especially applicable to rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character, which will only be able to take advantage of the account-wide discount if all slots are full of high-quality gear.
