The best robot hoover can vacuum and mop without needing your attention. It will leave your floors spotless. Its low cost and top-of-the-line functions (such as dirt detectors) are both positives.
Make sure you regularly inspect your robot's brushes for tangled hair as well as large debris and wash them if required. Some models can also self-empty the onboard dustbin and deposit it in a larger bin located at the base. This helps reduce the amount of fine dust released into the air.
1. Roomba Q5 pro
The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the pricier Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've examined. They feature top-of-the-line motors that can pull up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Similar to other iRobots that are premium (including the top model) they employ intelligent mapping to design precise floorplans and avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. The robots also feature the feature of Carpet Boost that boosts its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on floors that were bare They are also adept in cleaning hair from dogs. However, they do have a few flaws however, which hinder them from being our first choice. For instance, the Q5's navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to get caught up in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate rooms with a lot of people efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of a room.
It's still a good value, especially if your office or home has lots of unfinished floors and you're looking to save some money. It's also very quiet and can work while you're at work, or going to school. The only thing it doesn't have that you don't get in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle however. If you're in need of it, the mopping pad can be replaced with one that is wet in just a few just a few seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and effective at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also features a powerful suction and an automatic bin for emptying. It's the best robot hoover [speaking of] for carpets, but it's not as good as other hoovers in terms of deep cleaning.
This highly efficient combination vacuum and mop utilizes advanced sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste and it will learn your home's layout over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. The app lets you customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average in comparison to similar models.
It is possible to instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mop and extend them when it's in a room with carpet to prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach beneath furniture that is low and along baseboards. It's not as efficient on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
During testing, X30 Ultra was the quickest robot vacuum/mop that could complete the task of cleaning a whole home, with 66 per cent of its battery remaining. It also did a great job cleaning a variety of floors and rooms with various flooring types, such as some area rug. Its obstacle detection was great and it was able to avoid fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles cables.
It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically fills up its base, and also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature that we haven't seen on other robot vacuum/mop combination.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
The robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular look that looks more like a regular Roomba unit than the boxy models from the competition. It is one of our most attractive robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also is its most advanced, with advanced features including enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).
It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to a combination high-tech sensors including a structured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that is fully self-refill and empty its base station, and it has an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.
Like other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, with an easy mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only issue is that it's still quite loud, which can be problematic if you run it in the morning prior to work or in the evening as you try to sleep.
It's also quite expensive, but it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are similarly capable and better-looking. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable however it's more expensive and create more noise.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best automatic vacuum robot vacuum and mop. It has a number of advanced features that help you forget your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine that is similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically empty the vacuum's bin, refills the water tank, as well as washes and dries the mop pads.
The smart robot uses a combination of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and identify obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its more expensive rivals. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time detection of hazards however, it wasn't reliable in our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.
The vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also comes with an attribute called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas of the home based on how dirty the areas tend to be.
If you have a bigger home, it is worth choosing a model that has zones or spot cleaning modes. This allows you to instruct the robot on which part of your home must be cleaned with the help of an app or voice control. If you have lots of furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. Additionally the recharge and resume function that lets your robot auto vacuum and mop continue where it left off is ideal for busy families.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you would expect from its price tag. It does a stellar job cleaning, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion that does a better job cleaning than the other robot mop cleaners we've tried. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self emptying, washable base.
The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate an exercise in mapping that collects data on your floorplan and any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, arrange a spot clean or to prioritize your most filthy rooms to ensure better performance. The app also grants access to a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, meaning it can get to corners and under furniture more easily. It also has strong 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean which will thoroughly clean the area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and less expensive alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like cute eyes. It does a great job vacuuming, however it is more likely to be stuck on low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums that we have test. It also has a less intuitive app and a small base station that doesn't double as an emptying bin.
