WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give you boosts in specific stats. Each upgrade increases the item level upgrade level by +3. Each upgrade also increases an unspecified substat.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless the Best item upgrade has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like eth Titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the necessity to roll for a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade gear to a higher level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be made on any type of armor or weapons. The item upgrader kit used to upgrade the item is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create enchantments.

The upgrader is located in every major city, and can be visited anytime to upgrade your equipment. It is recommended to visit the upgrader once every couple of weeks to keep your equipment up-to-date.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the level of the item however, they are always cheaper than buying new gear. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that are used to level up weapons and tools, armor and accessories. Players can purchase them from NPCs of item upgraders for various currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be used on any weapon, tool or armor. The button will display the preview of an item's next level of upgrade, when there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the item slot and current item level and the weapon's price is higher than gloves or bracers, for example. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with certain upgrades offering discounts to reduce the cost of Flightstones or the crests used. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain degree it is able to be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currencies.

Upgraders for items are available at many locations on the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount and the chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players complete certain achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at start, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. The NPCs who are able to facilitate upgrades are available only through a variety means. This is both a benefit as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3, the upgrade item system was tweaked a bit, with some new features added. After a player has earned an upgrade to a specific level of an item level Upgrade for a specific armor slot, upgrading other items to that same item level will cost less, even if they are part of another set of gear.

The discount is available to all accounts. Similarly, the amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is also cut and is not available until players have reached certain milestones in their achievements.

Crests

Players have a variety of options for upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to all players for upgrading. Crests are more special, and are used during specific item upgrader kit level upgrades. Crests are an integral component of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests can only be used to purchase gear of a specific rank, and that every rank has different requirements for upgrading. The simplest and simplest upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, depending on the type or equipment that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by finishing tasks at the appropriate level. This could be done by doing outdoor activities or taking on dungeons and raids of all difficulties to get lower-tier gear or Mythicbosses for raids, or dungeons with heroic difficulty for endgame gear. These crests are then exchanged with an upgrader for the item like Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and paths.

The new currency system isn't complicated to use, but it does bring some modifications to the upgrade process. For example, once an item is at the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is intended to allow players to upgrade their equipment to the highest possible ilvl for all their characters instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

It's also essential to use crests wisely, as they only have one use. For instance it's a good idea utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests on the top equipment you have, and then save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you plan on making. This is particularly true for items like trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character which will only be able to take advantage of the discount for all accounts when all slots are full of high-quality equipment.
