What is a bedside cot?
A bedside crib (also called bassinet or co-sleeper) is a small baby crib that is attached to your adult bed, allowing your baby to sleep in a safe environment with you. This is a type of safe co-sleeping that doesn't increase the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) similar to bedsharing and can help you build a bond with your new arrival.
The cots come with one side that can be lowered so that you can reach your baby easily at night to soothe and feed them. This is particularly beneficial for mums recovering from the c-section. Many of them are portable or foldable so you can use them for travel and as an interim solution for babies that aren't yet ready to be able to transition to a larger crib.
Choose a crib that has an air-conditioned mattress, as well as an extra-safe cover that will shield your baby from stains. You might also want to purchase baby-safe items such as a blanket or teether.
If you're looking for a more long-term solution, some cribs come with conversion kits that let you convert them into a toddler bed or cot at the time that is appropriate. This will extend their life and make the transition smoother. Some have a removable top section that can be converted into an infant bed, and some can be used on either an ordinary or high-rise adult bed. This is an excellent choice for families that plan to travel frequently or change between bedrooms in the evening. Take into consideration the size of your bedroom to make sure you can be able to fit in the crib comfortably. Many cribs have a riser that can be used to create an incline for babies who have reflux.
The Joie Roomie Glide
Famous for their high-end baby products for babies, the English brand Joie has stepped into the world of cribs for bedside co sleeper use with the Roomie Glide. Designed to allow parents to bond with their babies whilst sleeping together without sharing a bed. This co-sleeper has features that make bonding between parents and babies easy, safe and enjoyable.
A gentle rocking motion can be initiated by pressing a button. This will help soothe your baby to sleep with a gentle beat that doesn't disrupt their natural sleep pattern. This is great for older babies and toddlers who are struggling to settle. It can help with digestion problems such as colic and reflux.
The crib can be locked in its place after the rocking has been done to stop it moving. It can also be secured to the side of your bed with clips and straps. This makes it very stable and secure allowing you to get a good night's sleep without having to worry about your baby sliding off into the middle of the room. The cocoon's rounded shape features softly padded sides and two mesh windows on both ends to allow for plenty of air flow whilst protecting your baby.
The mattress is comfortable and firm and comes with an easily removable cover. The crib is easy to put together and take down thanks to an aluminum frame that is lightweight and makes it very mobile. The four rubber-covered wheels lockable ensure that the crib will not leave marks on your flooring and are easy to move. It is easy to clean with fabric wipes and is simple to tote in a backpack, which makes it ideal for extended time away from home.

Its airflow mattress is luxurious and provides an incredibly comfortable sleeping surface, while the ventilation panels keep your baby cool. There are 6 different height settings and an incline option to help with congestion and reflux.
The Tutti Bambini COZee Air crib comes with a removable fabric and a wipe-clean lining. This makes it easier to clean than some best bedside cots cribs that can be messy to clean. Additionally, it comes with a top bar that can be easily lowered for feeding at night without having to fumble with zips in the dark.
Anna discovered the CoZee to provide a safe, comfortable place to sleep for her baby. It was a pleasure to not move like other models so she wasn't woken up at night while trying to soothe her baby during feedings. She also liked that the side of the chair was lowered so that she didn't have to reach over her partner to carry the child out for nighttime feedings.
The CoZee is available in oak or charcoal and is a chic addition to any bedroom. It looks more designer than other cribs we've tried and are typically utilitarian. It's also lightweight at just 11kg and comes with a carrying case that allows you to take it with you on vacation or when moving house. The only extras you have to purchase are a fitted waterproof sheet and a co-sleeping safety strap. There are helpful step-by-step instructions and illustrations to guide you through the process when you first open the box which makes it a one-person job if needed.
The Maxi-Cosi Lora
The Iora is a bassinet that can be placed at the bedside that allows parents to feel more connected to their infant as they sleep. It adjusts upwards and downwards and moves through three slide positions to fit next to the bed of the parent, or in the corner of the room so that the baby is always close at hand. The mesh siding is breathable, allowing air to circulate through and lets you glance at your baby. You can also store any extra pajamas or items in the Large bedside crib storage basket beneath.
The Iora is a bedside crib that is smaller and can fold flat. It also comes with a travel bag which allows it to be taken anywhere. It was easy to move around from room to space, and our mum testers felt it was the perfect size for a bedside crib. They also loved the large storage basket that is ideal for storing nappies or bedding.
This is a great option for parents who wish to co-sleep but don't want to share their bed. Also, if one of the partners suffers from mobility issues, such as back pain or arthritis. Our mum testers were thrilled to be able to easily access their baby while in the Iora and that it came with an optional reflux incline that helped alleviate gas.
Our mothers are thrilled that the mattress adheres to NICE guidelines. These include placing the baby in the Moses basket or crib on its own without blankets, toys, pillows etc. They also state that the mattress is comfortable and firm for babies and is easy to find sheets for. It isn't as light as the other cribs that are smaller however, so if you want something lighter and more portable, think about one of the alternatives on our list.
