Three Wheeled Buggies

If you're seeking a buggy to run with or just a stroller that can be used for strolls around the neighborhood, three-wheeled buggies offer great mobility. Their compact design makes them easy to maneuver even in tight areas.

For a smooth ride, opt for a pram that has air-filled tyres. Look for models with 360deg front swivel wheels. They are prone, however to punctures. Be prepared with an repair kit.

Sturdy frame

New figures show that three-wheeled buggies that were the symbol of the noughties that had more money than common sense, are in rapid decline. They've been replaced with four-wheelers that can handle a wider variety of terrain, while also looking stylish and easy to push.

The general principle is that the larger the wheels, the easier it will be for your buggy to deal with rough ground and bumpy pavements. With larger wheels front and back also makes it much easier to maneuver and more stable when walking downhill or on difficult terrain.

MFM reviewer Kath tested the buggy with a newborn as well as a 3 year old and found that it was able to handle cobbles, grass rough roads, dirt tracks and kerbs. She noted that it was sturdy to push, and extremely solid on rough terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable so need periodic pumping) have suspension built-in that was very comfortable for my kids.

Another thing to think about is the seat size and shape. The seat should be large enough to allow your child to feel at ease and to lie down. Certain three-wheel buggies have an option to lie flat completely while others allow a parent facing one.

A great choice for tackling off-road and muddy trails is the Roma Atlas. This buggy is ideal for a single child as early as birth and can be adjusted to accommodate two children as your family grows. It is suitable for babies and toddlers from age four and includes a bumper bar, raincover, a better 5-point harness and a spacious padded seat unit. Storage options are also good, with a large basket and zip pockets on the hood and an extra pouch on the rear of the seat unit.

Wheels with a larger diameter

Larger wheels give your buggy more stability while driving on rough terrain. This is ideal for buggies that are off-road. They also make it easier to navigate the pushchair through tight spaces. Many three wheeled buggies have rotating front wheels that assist you in maneuvering around corners with ease, whereas others are designed for running and come with fixed front wheels that lock to increase the speed and stability with which they can be driven. This is also helpful when you crash into an unintentional tree root or road, as the front wheel can be lifted up a bit to prevent you from hitting it.

Many 3 wheeled pushchairs have air-filled tyres, which allows them to navigate a wide range of terrains. They are also more flexible than 4 wheelers. They're also lighter. However, they're susceptible to punctures, so you'll need to keep a repair kit, spare tube and pump in your bag.

Some of our favourite 3 wheel stroller cheap-wheelers include the Mountain Buggy Core and Venicci Carbo Lux. Both of these buggies have larger wheels that, as per MFM reviewer Kath, "perform really well on grass, gravel tracks and market town cobbles" and can easily go up and down kerbs. The buggies also have suspension that according to Kath "smooths out bumps very effectively".

The downside of having bigger wheels is that they make some buggies quite broad and make it difficult to get through narrow spaces. This is a problem especially if you're using it to an exercise bike or to to get through doorways that are narrow when you're out and out and about. Fortunately, the majority of models come with compact folding options that allow you to remove the front wheels to create more compact storage.

Easy to maneuver

One of the primary benefits to a three wheel buggy is that it's much easier to maneuver especially with a child in the back. They are designed to ensure that the front wheels can rotate at a moment's notice, and are easy to move, making them ideal for terrains that are difficult, such as cobblestones, parks, bumpy roads, and dirt tracks.

MFM reviewer Kath tried a 3 wheel double buggy-wheeler with her newborn and toddler and stated: "The Terrain was a pleasure to navigate over the rough terrain with the swivel rear wheel being particularly helpful. I was also impressed with how well it handled kerbs with the hand-operated break. It was extremely stable when for descending or on uneven terrain."

The only downside to this great maneuverability, is that the larger wheels of a 3 wheel buggy can sometimes make it difficult to squeeze into tight spaces. This is something you should keep in mind if your home area is an urban area. If this is a problem, a 4-wheel buggy might be a better option for you.

Bumper bar

Bumper bars are the ideal way to protect your child from scrapes and bumps while out and out and about. They are easy to install and will make your child feel secure and safe out and out and about.

Designed to complement the sleek lines of your Slim Twin stroller, this bumper bar features a soft and cushioned surface that provides a comfortable spot for your child to hang on to during walks. The sturdy construction and durable design will ensure that your child will be comfortable strolling through the city without having to worry about falling or leaning forward.

The sling is stowed inside the frame, not on top like the seat that is modular. This creates a lower center of gravity for your baby at the ideal height, and also offers great weight distribution, making it easier to pop over curbs (it is much easier to push a stroller up and over than you think). MFM reviewer Kath said it was ideal on cobbles and grass. It's also a good option for running with its air-filled tyres and the lockable swivel wheel.

This bumper bar is sure to attract attention wherever it's utilized. It has a classy and elegant look. Available in a variety of finishes and colors that can be customized to fit your style. The bumper bar can be easily installed and removed using the quick-release mechanism. Furthermore, the bumper bar is easy to clean and is constructed from sturdy materials that are easy to clean. This makes it a great option for families that want an attractive and secure accessory for their stroller.

Comfort

A 3 wheel baby strollers-wheel buggie offers the highest level of maneuverability and performance when you go off road. With perfect design and engineering, as well as weight distribution this kind of buggy is able to change direction on a dime and be a breeze to steer using just one hand; and all Mountain Buggies pass the same rigorous stability standards and tests as buggies with four wheels.

The Sport's clever design places the sling seat made of fabric inside the frame, instead of on top like modular seats. This means it has a lower center of gravity and makes it easier to push, has a less weighty curb-pop (you won't need to exert the same effort to raise the buggy's nose over the curb) and also provides more stability and balance. And with the huge 16 rear wheels with lockable swivel wheels on the front and tyres with air that require only occasional pumping, you get an unhurried ride on rough terrain and a smoother and more comfortable jog too.

As the only pushchair in our collection to come with a parent facing seat that can also take the form of a car seat or carrycot, you can future proof your family and enjoy every adventure from day dot and for years to come - all within the footprint of a single buggy!

Kath who was our MFM reviewer, also loved the roominess of this buggy. There's a large, easily accessible basket that's quite spacious for a buggy this small and there's an easy-to-use pouch that zips up on the back of the seat unit, and two smaller mesh pockets in the hood to keep your keys and phone.
