WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost in specific stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by 3. A random substat is also increased with each upgrade.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless the item is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are not as useful for those with lower requirements because of the requirement to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be made on any type of weapon or armor. However, the item that is used to upgrade item will remain in use for a long time and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be applied to Enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities and can be visited anytime to upgrade your gear. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader at least once every few weeks, to keep your equipment up-to-date.

Upgrades can cost more based on the level of the item however, they are always less expensive than purchasing new equipment. For example upgrading a Benthic chest piece to 385 levels will cost 20 recycle points, while purchasing the same item from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are useful items which can be used to upgrade weapons, tools, armor, and accessories. They can be bought by players from item upgrader NPCs in exchange for a variety of currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased, it can be applied to any weapon or tool with an button, which will display an image of the item when it is upgraded when the player has enough materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the slot of the item upgrades and the current level of the item. For instance weapons cost more than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Some upgrades give discounts on Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain degree it is able to be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of the two currency types.

A lot of locations offer upgraders for items, including the main Island and some outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon and a possibility of getting the latest recipe. The discount on upgrades increases depending on the amount of items that are being upgraded, and can be increased by having players complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no upgrader for items available at the start of Icewind Dale. Instead, the NPCs that can be used to upgrade must be acquired through various methods which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3, a number of new features were added to the upgrade system. After a player has earned an upgrade to a particular level of an item level upgrade for a specific armor slot, upgrading additional items to that same item level will cost less, even in the event that they belong to a different gear set.

The amount of Valorstones needed to upgrade is reduced and the discount is account-wide. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is reduced as well, but is only available after certain milestones have been reached.

Crests

Players have a number of choices when it comes to upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specific, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an important part of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System, which was introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

The first thing to be aware of is that crests can only be spent on equipment that is of a particular rank, and that every rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the most complicated can require as much as 20 crests based on the type of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by completing content of the appropriate level, whether that means walking around and doing outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, raids or dungeons with all difficulty for items of higher tier or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses and dungeons for gear that is used in the endgame. The crests can later be exchanged at an item upgrader mod upgrader NPC, like Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to get the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.

The use of these currencies isn't too complicated however, the system will introduce a few modifications to the upgrade process. For instance, when an item reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change lets players upgrade their gear to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests in a wise manner, as they have only one purpose. It is best to use your Whelpling-rank Crests on the best gear you can locate and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next round of upgrades. This is particularly applicable to items like trinkets and rings that fill several slots. The discount on the account will only apply when all slots on the character are filled with top-quality equipment.
