WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give you boost in specific statistics. Each upgrade increases item level by +3. A random additional substat is also added to every upgrade.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless the item is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like eth Titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the necessity to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of armor or weapon. However, the item used for the upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enhancements.

The upgrader is located in all major cities and can be accessed anytime to upgrade your gear. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader every few weeks, to ensure that your equipment is up-to-date.

The cost of upgrading will depend on the current level of the equipment being upgraded, but will always be less expensive than purchasing new gear from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest up to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item upgrader kit will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are functional items that can be used to improve the quality of weapons, tools, armor, and other items. They can be bought by players from NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for a variety of currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor. The button will display the item's next upgrade level, in the event that there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the item upgrading slot, and the current level of the item. For example weapons are more expensive than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades offer discounts on Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain amount, it can be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of the two currencies.

Upgraders for items can be found in many places including the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount and a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrading increases as more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete certain achievements or quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II, there is no upgrader for items in the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead the NPCs that can be used to upgrade require various methods that are both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3 the upgrade system was tweaked a bit, with some new features added. When a player has an upgrade to a particular item level for a particular armor slot, upgrading additional items to that level will cost less, even when they are part of an entirely different set of gear.

The discount is applicable to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is reduced also, but is only available after certain milestones have been reached.

Crests

Players have several choices when it comes to upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specific and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1 and are available in 4 ranks.

First, you should know that Crests are only available to equipment of a certain rank. Each rank comes with distinct upgrade paths. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade items path costs 15 crests, while the more complex one can require as much as 20 crests based on the kind of gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by finishing content at the appropriate level. This could be done by doing outdoor activities, or by completing dungeons and raids in any difficulty to earn lower-tier gear or Mythicbosses of raids or dungeons with a heroic difficulty to obtain endgame gear. Crests can be exchanged at an upgrader NPC, like Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.

Using these new currencies isn't too difficult however, the system introduces some modifications to the upgrade process. For instance, when an item Level upgrade is at the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is designed to allow players to get their equipment up to the highest ilvl possible on all their characters instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

Another important change is that crests have one usage, so it's important to use them wisely. For instance, it's a good idea to utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests on the best gear you have available and keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you plan to make. This is especially applicable to rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character, which can only be eligible to benefit from the discount for all accounts when all slots are filled with top-quality gear.
