What Freud Can Teach Us About Item Upgrade
WoW Upgrades - The item upgrade Upgrader
Upgrades will give you a boost to certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by +3. A random substat is also increased with each upgrade.
The upgraded gear typically has a higher trade value regardless of whether it has low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or very high stat variance (like the eth titan weapons). Upgrades are not as useful for those with lower requirements due to the requirement to roll a perfect version.
Recycle Points
The item level upgrade upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher item level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any type of armor or weapons. However, the item upgrade used for the upgrade will remain in use for a long time and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create Enchantments.
You can upgrade your gear at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each couple of weeks.
Upgrades will cost more, based on the item level, but they will always be cheaper than buying new gear. For instance, upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points purchasing a similar piece from another player will costs 105.
Valorstones
Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade tools, armor, weapon and accessory upgrades. They can be bought by players through NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for a variety of currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased, it can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor with a button, which will display an item's preview when it is upgraded if the player has sufficient materials.
Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot for the item and the current item level. For instance weapons are more expensive than bracers, or gloves. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Some upgrades offer discounts on Flightstones. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain degree it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.
Upgraders for items are available in many places including the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount and the chance to acquire a new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrading increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players finish certain achievements or quests.
Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the beginning, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. The NPCs who can facilitate upgrades are available only through a variety means. This is both a positive and a drawback.
In Season 3, the upgrade system was tweaked a bit, with numerous new features added. When a player has an upgrade to a particular item upgrading level for a particular armor slot, upgrading additional items to that level will cost less, even in the event that they belong to a different gear set.
The discount applies to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is reduced too, but it is only available once certain milestones have been reached.
Crests
When upgrading equipment in WoW, players have a couple of choices. Flightstones are an item that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specialized and are used for specific item upgrade level upgrades. Crests are an essential part of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1, and come in four ranks.
The first thing to be aware of is that crests can only be spent on gear of a specific rank, and each rank has its own requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and easiest upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complex upgrade can require up to 20 crests, depending on the type of gear being upgraded.
Players can earn crests by completing content of the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and performing outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, raids or dungeons with all difficulty for items of higher tier, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons to obtain endgame gear. These crests are then exchanged with an upgrader like Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and paths.
The use of these currencies isn't too complicated however, the system will introduce a few modifications to the upgrade process. For example, once an item is at the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change allows players to upgrade their gear to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters rather than relying on seasonal loot.
It's also important to use crests wisely, as they are only used for one purpose. It is best to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the highest-quality gear you can find and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests to be used for the next set of upgrades. This is especially true for items like rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character, which will only be able to benefit from the discount for all accounts when all of the slots are filled with top-quality gear.
