It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.
As with other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, with an easy mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only issue is that it's still quite loud which could be an issue if you use it in the morning before work or in the evening as you attempt to sleep.
It's also a bit costly but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally capable and better looking. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient however, it's more expensive and make more noise.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and vacuum. It comes with a variety of advanced features that will make you forget about your chores. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time hazard detection however, it wasn't foolproof in our testing and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.
The vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to do the job. It also comes with an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for various areas of the house based on how dirty these areas tend to be.
If you have a bigger home, it's worth selecting a robot that comes with spot or zone cleaning mode. This lets you inform the robot of which area of your home needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice command. A stair mode can be useful if you have a number of furniture. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self-emptying base that can be washed.
The well-designed iRobot app guides you through a mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, plan a spot clean or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to ensure better performance. The app also gives access to a host of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
