Robots That Vacuum and Mop

Robots that vacuum and clean offer the convenience of cleaning dry and wet messes in one go and without the need to switch between devices. They also can save space in comparison to two separate units, especially in smaller living areas.

A good combination bot will have excellent navigation and obstacles avoidance. Look for models that have docks that allow them to automatically empty their bins, fill their water tanks and machine-wash the mopping pads.

1. Eufy S1 Pro

It's among the easiest robots to install that we've tested. Unpacking is easy and the quick-start manual gets you up and running in no time. You'll have a an entire dust bag, water tank and a hard floor solution.

The S1 Pro is a powerful little machine that cleans up a mess and also vacuums well. The mops spin at fast speeds and can apply 2.2 pounds (1kg) of force, which makes short work of dirt, pet hair and dried sticky spills. The vacuum has four power modes, a range of brushes and attachments and a user-friendly application that lets you choose the kind of cleaning you'd like to have for each room.

You could, for instance ask the robot to clean the kitchen and the living room thoroughly but leave the bedroom to itself. The S1 Pro's front colision sensors and smart navigation technology are superb as the robot is capable of detecting small obstacles that other models struggle with. The only problem is that it tends to crash into objects and walls at full speed. However an inspection of the history of cleaning in the app will tell you precisely what the robot has done, where it is going, and which obstacles it has stumbled upon or avoided.

The docking station comes with an LCD display that shows when maintenance is needed for cleaning up debris and rinsing the dirty water tank. It can also mix detergent automatically into the water tank with a 600ml bottle of Eufy's own solution.

Both the S1 Pro mop and vacuum come with a long-running time. The mop can run for 184 mins in Quiet Mode and the vacuum can last for 136 minutes in normal mode, prior to having to recharge or returning to the base. And you can see the complete cleaning details within the app, which is intuitively laid out and easy to understand although we would have liked to be able to differentiate between a vacuum and mop and vacuum clean when looking at a clean area in the history of cleaning.

2. Roborock S8 Pro Ultra

The Roborock S8 Pro Ultra is the latest version of the company's top robot mop and vacuum. The model this year has two agitators built into its mopping pad. This increases the cleaning capabilities of carpets with this model. The S8 Pro Ultra also has an improved suction capacity, allowing it to pick up small hairs and other debris that other best robotic mop and vacuum cleaners may miss.

As with the other two Roborock models I've tried, this one has reactive 3D obstacle avoidance and infrared technology that can help to avoid furniture, walls and other obstacles. However, the S8 Pro Ultra takes things one step further by adding a dual camera which can detect objects and decide whether they're an object that is a wall or a different surface. It can then change its direction automatically and clean around them without stumbling.

It's the most expensive of the three models I've reviewed, however, it's also the most packed with features. Its sleek, angular style is attractive and it has just three physical buttons that include the power button that also resumes cleaning; a mop button that doubles as a child lock; and a home button to return the robot to its dock. The hinged lid can be opened to reveal a 350ml dustbin as well as a 200ml of water tank. The water tank automatically empties and the bin auto-refills.

The only drawback I could find to this model was that the VibraRise mop pads mount isn't removable. You can replace the mopping cloth if required, but it's a challenge to take the mount off for washing manually. I've noticed that any plush carpet the best robot vacuum cleaner and mop crosses will be in contact with the rough Velcro-like fastener system on the mount, and can cause abrasions.

The S8 Pro Ultra has a number of smart features, including support for Google Home, Amazon Alexa and Siri. The Roborock app lets you manage and set up these features. It also has maps and advanced mopping options. The app allows you to schedule cleanings and monitor battery life. You'll need to go through a few steps to enable voice control on this model.
