WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades can give you boosts in certain statistics. Each upgrade increases item level by +3. A random substat is also increased with every upgrade.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless it has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like the eth Titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the requirement to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item Level Upgrade upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be made on any type of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create the enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader once every few weeks to keep your equipment up to date.

The cost of upgrading will be based on the current level of the gear being upgraded but they will always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest up to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. Buying a similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are useful items that can be used to upgrade weapons, tools, armor, and other items. They can be bought by players through NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for different currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any tool, weapon, or armor. The button will display a preview of an item's next level of upgrade, when there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot for the item and the current level of the item. For instance weapons are more expensive than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a variety of crests, with certain upgrades having a discount to reduce the cost of Flightstones or the crests used. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain amount, it can be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lower amount of both currencies.

Many locations offer item upgraders, including the main Island and some outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount and the chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases as more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete certain achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader kit upgrader at beginning, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. Instead, the NPCs that can be used to upgrade require a variety of means that are both an improvement and a drawback.

In Season 3, the upgrade system has been altered a bit, with some new features added. Once a player obtains an upgrade to a particular level of an item for a specific armor slot, upgrading additional items to that same item level will cost less even when they belong to a different gear set.

The amount of Valorstones required to upgrade is reduced and the discount is available across all accounts. Similarly, the amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players have reached certain achievement milestones.

Crests

When it comes to upgrading gear in WoW players have a couple of choices. Flightstones are an item that is available to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more specialized and are utilized during specific item upgrader mod level upgrades. Crests are an integral element of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System that was introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests can only be used to purchase equipment that is of a particular rank, and that each rank has different requirements for upgrading. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade route costs 15 crests while the more complex one can require as much as 20 crests, based on the type of gear being upgraded.

Players can obtain crests by working through content that is of the appropriate level, which means walking around and doing outdoor activities for lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons with all difficulty for items of higher tier or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons for gear that is used in the endgame. The crests can later be exchanged at an upgrader NPC, like Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade pathways and steps.

The new currency system isn't too difficult to use, however it will bring some changes to the process of upgrading. When a piece of equipment attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it will no longer require Flightstones. This change lets players upgrade their equipment to the highest level possible on all their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another significant change is that crests only have one use and it's crucial to use them properly. It's best to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the best gear that you can find, and save Drake and Wyrm Crests to be used for the next set of upgrades. This is especially relevant for items like trinkets and rings that take up several slots. The discount on the account will only be applicable if all slots on the character are filled with top-quality equipment.
