It's thus susceptible to get stuck on shoes and socks and could not navigate rooms with lots of people well in our tests. Also, it doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of an area.

However, it's a good choice for those who want to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also quiet and works while you are at work or in school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't stick very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. If you're required to mop, the mopping pad can be swapped for a wet one in minutes.

This mop and vacuum combination features a sleek, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba unit than the boxy units of the competitors. It is one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is its most advanced model, with features that are cutting-edge like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's also the only robot vacuum/mop to score an absolute 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to the combination of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and boasts an its own self-cleaning robot mop and vacuum mop pads.

Like other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, with an easy mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only issue is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in the mornings before work or during the night when you're trying to fall asleep.
