In some cases the upgrade will provide additional perks that can be selected from a list of available advantages.
Rarely, the new perks obtained will cost more than one perk slot; in these situations, the upgrade will only replace the most expensive perks. Sometimes, the upgrader will make other changes to an item, like changing its weapon damage type or removing or adding an unwieldy or operative property. The cost of these changes is based on the new ilvl of the item, and may require a special material, such as adamantine alloy.
Success Rate
Item upgrades are based on an opportunity, and like every random system, there's an opportunity that the upgrade won't be successful. However, there are a few things that can help to increase the chance of success. This includes using an Upgrade Pity, or the addition of additional components to your upgrade.
An Upgrade Pity is a product you can purchase from the smithing NPC in Lost Ark. It increases the odds of the upgrade being successful by an amount. This is similar to the luck bonus certain items offer however it is more solid. It can be added to any weapon or armor and is used three times.
You can also add other materials to the upgrade to increase the chance of success. They are displayed in a window above the + button. There are a few limitations. The maximum amount of material you can add is displayed directly above the + button.
A Blacksmith Blessing or an upgraded version of it, can be used to boost the chances of an upgrade being successful. This item is useful when you own a weapon or piece of equipment that is at the highest level for its tier or is close to it. It will let you upgrade that piece of equipment to the next level without worrying about breaking.
