The robots also come with a feature called Carpet Boost that increases its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.
Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our tests on floors that are bare and are particularly effective at cleaning pet hair. They do have some flaws, however, that prevent them from being our first choice. For one, the Q5's navigation doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of the room.
It's still a great option to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a Roomba from iRobot, and you have a bare-floored home or office. It's also quiet and operates when you're at work or school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle, however. If you need to clean the mopping pad, it can be replaced with one that is wet in just a few just a few seconds.
2. iRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into an elegant, compact package. Its smart cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean, and effective in dealing with larger particles, like pet hair. It also features strong suction and self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, but it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it has vacuumed. This is something we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
This mop and automatic vacuum and mop robot combination has a sleek, circular look that looks more like a regular Roomba model than the boxy models of the rivals. It is one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The newest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).
It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely self-refill and empty its base station, and it boasts its own self-cleaning mop pads.
Like other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, with a simple mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only issue is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This could be a concern in the mornings before work, or in the evening when you are trying to sleep.
It's also quite expensive, but it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally powerful and look better. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient, but it's going to cost you more and create more noise.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot auto vacuum and mop and mop. It has a range of advanced features that will help you forget your chores. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vac works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home in accordance with the degree of dirt they tend to be.
If you own a larger home, you should consider selecting a robot that comes with zones or spot cleaning modes. This allows you to instruct the robot on which part of your house needs to be cleaned using the app or voice command. A stair mode can be useful if you have a number of furniture. Also the recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is ideal for busy families.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you might think from its price. It's a pro at vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using a single pad and a reciprocating movement which is cleaner than the majority of the robot mop cleaners that we've tested. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured application, and a self-emptying, washable base.
The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through a mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or to create an automatic vacuum and mop robot spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize the most soiled areas for greater efficiency. The app also gives access to a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it can get to corners and underneath furniture better. It has a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction and clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also set up a spot cleaning that intensely cleans a localized area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like adorable eyes. It's good at vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to getting caught on low thresholds and is more noisy than the other top robotic vacuums we've tried. It also comes with an app that's less intuitive and has a tiny base station that can't double as a bin to empty.
