The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot hoover can mop and vacuum without needing your attention. It leaves your floors spotless. Its low cost and features that are high-end (such as dirt detection) are a plus.

Be sure to regularly examine the brushes of your robot for tangled hair and large particles and clean them as required. Some models will automatically empty their onboard dust bin into a larger bin at the base, which decreases the amount of fine dust released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the pricier Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've test. They have motors that are top-of-the class and can handle up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other top iRobot models (including the top-rated model) they utilize smart mapping technology to create precise floor plans and eliminate household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. The robots also feature a feature called Carpet Boost that boosts its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our tests on floors that are bare, and they're particularly adept in removing pet hair. However, they have several flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the flaws of the Q5 is that its navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to become stuck on socks and shoes, and it couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.

It's still a great deal particularly if your home or office has a lot of unfinished floors and you're looking to save some money. It's also very quiet and can be used while you're at work or school. The only thing it's missing that you don't get in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective in mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with an auto-emptying dock, however. And, if you have to, you can switch the mopping pad to a dry one in seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to sweep floors. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient in taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also features self-emptying dustbins with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best automatic vacuum cleaner robotic hoover for carpets but it isn't as effective as some of its competitors in terms of deep cleaning.

This high-performing mop and vacuum combo makes use of advanced sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste and it also learns the layout of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. It comes with a battery life that is comparable to other models.

You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when it's in a carpeted room which prevents cross-contamination. The flex arm is ideal to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. However, it doesn't have the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop that could complete an entire house, finishing with 66 percent of its battery left. It also did an excellent job cleaning a range of rooms and floors with different flooring types, including certain area rug. Its obstacle detection was excellent and it was able to avoid fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles cables.

It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically empties into its base, and also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after vacuuming, a feature that we've not seen on other robot vacuum cleaner reviews vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

The robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular design that looks more like the regular Roomba model than the boxy units of the competitors. It's among our most appealing looking robot vacuums that mop vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also its smartest. It has advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that has a perfect 10 in our tests thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, which include a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that is fully self-refill and empty its base station and it has an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, offering an easy mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only issue is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in the mornings before work or at night when you're trying to fall asleep.

It's also a bit costly however, not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. If you're willing to put up with a bit more noise and a little more cost this is a powerful two-in-one that will please almost everyone.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot mop and automatic vacuum and mop robot. It has a number of advanced features that will make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner like Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically empty the vacuum's bin, refills the water tank, as well as washes and dry mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to create floorplans and identify obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time however this was not 100% reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused with obstructions or power cords.

The vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to accomplish the task. It also comes with a feature called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home based on how dirty these areas are.

If you own a larger home, it's worth selecting a robot that comes with spot or zone cleaning mode. This allows you to instruct the robot vacuums with mop on which part of your home needs to be cleaned using the app or voice control. If you have furniture, a stair mode is also useful. For families that are busy recharge functions and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off can be very useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price suggests. It has a great vacuuming performance and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with only one pad and a rotating motion that is more efficient than most mop cleaners for robots that we've examined. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying base that can be washed.

The iRobot application is designed to guide you through the mapping process, which gathers information on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, set up the perfect spot for cleaning or sort out your rooms with the most dirt to improve performance. The app also grants access to a host of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has strong 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for pet hair. You can also set up a spot cleaning that scours a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras appear like cute eyes. It's good at vacuuming, but is more prone to get caught on low thresholds and is louder than the other top robot vacuums we've tested. It also has a less intuitive app and a tiny base station that can't be used as a bin for emptying.
