Upgrades to an item are a way to increase the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade you choose, it may increase an item's Rarity or Mark Level and boost additional stats.

Each item has a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a specific amount.

Item Level

When an item gets upgraded, its basic stats are increased in value. This is the sum of an item's upgraded perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrading items can be expensive, depending on the upgrader you choose and what type of upgrade you choose to do. This is because of how many perks must be replaced in order for the item to be upgraded.

Item level is a commonly used measure of power, and can be found on all tooltips of items. It can also be used as a gating requirement when queueing for dungeons, scenarios, and raids, as well as to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear (since PvP is capped at an lower level). Players can see their average item level in their character sheet.

When deciding whether to purchase or sell equipment, players can compare the levels of the item. It's a useful indicator of an item's quality and how much damage it will be capable of causing. The item level can also be used to evaluate items when evaluating the inventory of a seller.

On your PC, you can check the level of the item using ALT, or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the complete item description, including its value. It is also accessible by hovering an item with the mouse cursor and typing /itemlevel in chat.

There are several theories about how the item level calculation is made. One theory states that the item level is calculated using an equation that determines how valuable an item's stats really are. It considers the fact that different perks have different worth, and also that gems in sockets add to the item's overall value. This could result in an item's ilvl which is calculated and is often very close to Blizzard's actual item level.

However, this is not the only factor which can affect an item's ilvl as the level of the area the item dropped in can change the value of its stats, for instance by adding an additional level to its haste rating or crit rating. This means that items that drop at higher levels will have higher value than items dropped in lower-level instances.

Item Stats

The stats of an item upgrader kit can be the difference between a good or bad item for players. The game makes use of them in many ways to encourage players not to limit themselves to one weapon and to encourage them to try out other weapons. The stat mods on weapons boost base stats. These stat mods are then increased by a player's level.

The upgrades to items add by increasing certain stats of the item. The rarity of an item determines the upgrade cost. For instance, a grey or white item can only be upgraded once, while items with rare levels will be upgraded multiple times with higher prices.

Affixes are a different method to change an item's stats. They are stat boosts which can be added by the player to an item. The affixes can be used to give items additional damage or special capabilities (such as reviving dead or reducing cooling downs) or to distinguish them by naming them.

At present, all affixes can be rerolled by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button with circles arrows. This will cost a certain amount in gold and other items. These can be used as upgrade gauges, similar to other methods of rerolling.

Players can upgrade an item by a specific stat, or reroll affixes. The possible ranges of stats for an item are based on the item level, but every item is guaranteed to have at least 1 stat within that range, unless it's an Best item upgrader that is unique or the result of a God roll from a boss of a raid.

This is another thing that could be changed by introducing an option to upgrade the equipment without rerolling the affixes, or selecting which stats to increase. As with the base equipment, this would have to be done per item, and the interface for item comparison wouldn't display all possible stats simultaneously.

Item Luck

The Luck stat for a player adds up to increase the odds of finding items as well as the properties that appear on loot drops and the intensity of those properties. However, it does not directly affect damage or ability to upgrade items. It gives the player the chance to upgrade gear earlier in the game. This is particularly useful in early game runs since players tend to prioritize the scaling of weapons and defenses over raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the chances of success when upgrading items with the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chance which increases with each level of the item and can be further enhanced by using an anti-material, such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

The shields, armor, and weapons have a default Luck value of 40. These items can be enhanced by golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to give +40 Luck or to boost the existing Luck of an item, up to 140.

Additionally, certain items, such as the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow can be outfitted to increase the damage dealt by any damage-dealing skill by 5percent. These items can be purchased from the shop, or they can be made using the correct ingredients.

Not all upgrades are successful. However, there are some cash shop items that allow players to increase their success rate or prevent themselves from losing an item in the event that the upgrade fails.

When you upgrade an item, the rate of success is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the likelihood of successfully upgrading the item. This can be increased by using Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations on the extent to which the success rates can be improved, and the overall chance of an upgrade failing can't exceed 100%..

The Luck of an item may affect the success of an upgrade. All items have an average success rate of 25 percent, and each item with Luck increases this chance by 5%.

The upgrade overlays of the item are displayed above items in the inventory. This could obscure enchantment effects and other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the item upgrader [love it] CORE client config.
