1. Roomba Q5 Pro
The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive sibling, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we've tested. They feature top-of-the-line motors that can generate up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. And, like other premium iRobot models (including the top-rated model) they employ smart mapping technology to design detailed floor plans that avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. They also have carpet boost which boosts the robot's power when it sees an abundance of dirt on the carpet, allowing it cleaned quickly.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests on floors that were bare and are especially adept in removing dog hair. However, they have several flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the flaws of the Q5 is that its navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's thus susceptible to get stuck on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well during our tests. It also doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of the room.
It's still a good deal, especially if your office or home has a lot of bare floors and you want to save money. It's also quiet and works when you're at work or in school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't hold on well and aren't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has an auto vacuum and mop-emptying dock, however. And, if you need to, you can swap the mopping pad to a dry one in seconds.
2. iRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with self-emptying dustbins with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets, but it falls behind some competitors in terms of deep cleaning.
This high-performance automatic vacuum and mop and mop uses sensors that help it stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time to provide better cleaning. You can change its cleaning schedule and customize zones through the well-designed app. It comes with a battery life that is similar to other models.
When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to remove and extend its mops. This can help avoid cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach beneath furniture that is low and along baseboards. It doesn't offer the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ as well as the iRobot Combo j9+.
During tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete an entire home, and it did so with only 66 percent of its battery left. It did a good cleaning job on various floors and rooms with different flooring types, including certain area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top notch and it swiftly eluded fake dog turds, socks, shoes and cables.
It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is a feature we haven't seen before on other robot vacuum reviews vacuum/mop combination.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
This robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular look that looks more like the regular Roomba unit than the boxy units of the competitors. It is one of our most attractive robot hoover and mop vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It features advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads on its own).
It's also the only robot vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to a mix of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station and it boasts its own self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has an intuitive mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only downside is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This can be a problem in mornings prior to work or at night when you are trying to sleep.
It's also a bit expensive but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally capable and better looking. If you're willing some more volume and some additional cost this is a powerful two-in-one that will please almost everyone.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a lot of advanced features that will let you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take charge of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multifunction dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, and washes and dries its mop pads.
The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and spot obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its competitors with premium features. It also comes with a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time, although this wasn't quite reliable in our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.
Its vacuum has a high maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also comes with an attribute called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the house based on how dirty these areas are.
For larger houses, it's worth opting for models that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean one particular area of your home via the app or voice commands. If you have lots of furniture, a stairway mode is also useful. Finally, a recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum take over exactly where it left off is great for busy families.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you would expect from its price tag. It does a stellar job cleaning, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad that uses a reciprocating motion, which cleans better than most of the other mop cleaners for robots we've tried. It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured application and an auto-emptying washable base.
The iRobot application is designed to guide you through an exercise in mapping which collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or to organize the spot-cleaning. It can also be used to it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for greater efficiency. The app also gives access to a host of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
It is also able to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for hair of pets. And you can create a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans a particular area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It is great at vacuuming, but it is more likely to be caught on low thresholds. It also has a higher noise than other top robot vacuums that we've examined. It also has a less user-friendly app and a small base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
