Arvind Lal (born 22 August 1949) is an Indian billionaire pathologist and business executive serving as the chairman and managing director of Dr. Lal PathLabs, India's largest diagnostics chain with over 5,000 patient service centers.[1]
With a net worth of approximately $1.73 billion as of 2024, Lal transformed his father's single-clinic operation into a publicly traded diagnostics empire.[2]
He received the Padma Shri - India's fourth-highest civilian award - in 2009.[3]
Early life and education
Arvind Lal was born on 22 August 1949 in Delhi, India. His father, Dr. S.K. Lal, founded Dr. Lal PathLabs in 1949.[4]
He graduated with an MBBS from the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) in Pune and earned his MD in Pathology from the same institution.[5]
Career
Lal served in the Indian Armed Forces as a medical officer and lecturer at AFMC. He holds the honorary rank of Brigadier.[6]
In 1977, following his father's death, he took charge of Dr. Lal PathLabs at age 28. He pioneered the modernization of India's diagnostics industry by introducing computerized systems and quality management.[7]
In December 2015, the company went public with an IPO raising ₹830 crores ($125 million).[8]
In 2018, he published "Corporate Yogi: My Journey as a Spiritual Seeker and an Accidental Entrepreneur."[9]
Personal life
Lal is married to Dr. Vandana Lal, a transplantation immunology expert who joined the company in 1983. They have two children: Anjaneya and Archana.[10]
The couple established the ALVL Foundation for rural healthcare.[11]
