Controversies

U.S.-China technology competition

Applied Materials, like other semiconductor equipment companies, navigates complex geopolitical issues including U.S. Export controls on semiconductor equipment to China. The company must balance:

  • Compliance with U.S. Government restrictions
  • Maintaining customer relationships globally
  • Supporting the semiconductor supply chain

Industry concentration

As the dominant supplier in several equipment categories, Applied Materials faces scrutiny regarding market power and pricing practices in the highly concentrated semiconductor equipment industry.
