The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests of floors with no carpet, and they are particularly adept in cleaning dog hair. However, they have some flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. For one, the Q5's navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to getting hung up on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.

Still, it's very good, especially if you want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also quiet and works when you're at work or in school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on for long and don't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with self-emptying docks, however. If you're required to mop, the mopping pad can be swapped for an awe-inspiring one in a matter of minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into a sleek, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean, and effective in dealing with larger particles, like pet hair. It also features strong suction and self-emptying bin. It's the best automatic vacuum robot hoover for carpets, although it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is something we haven't seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With an elegant circular design that looks like a regular Roomba than the competitors' boxy units, this robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most appealing looking in our tests. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also its smartest. It has advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads on its own).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum to score an exemplary 10/10 in our evaluations, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to use. It has an intuitive mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that it's still quite a noisy unit, which can be an issue if you use it in the morning prior to work or at night as you try to fall asleep.

It's also a bit expensive, but it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally capable and better-looking. This is a two-in-one vacuum that is very efficient, but it's more expensive and create more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot mop and vacuum. It comes with a variety of advanced features that make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner that is similar to Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum and refills the water tank, as well as washes and dry the mop pads.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than the price suggests. It is a great job vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using only one pad and a reciprocating movement which is cleaner than the majority mop cleaners for robots that we've tested. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self emptying base that can be washed.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through a mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, set up an area for cleaning or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to improve performance. The app comes with a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, which means it can get to corners and underneath furniture more easily. It also has a powerful suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean that will thoroughly clean an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It is great at vacuuming, however it is more likely to get caught on low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums we've examined. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
