Then, lay out all of the tools you require. Find the battery hatch, and make sure that it is set to "open." Use a flathead screwdriver or coin or another similar tool to make the hatch wide. Then, carefully remove the battery from its socket by lifting it on the side closest to the key-ring loop. Be sure to wear rubber gloves to protect the contacts or the clips.

Insert the new battery into the socket after the previous one has been removed. Ensure that the positive side of the battery is facing up, and that all clips are seated. Then slide the cover downwards and towards the key-ring loop section until it becomes loose and falls off. Uncover the cover and reveal the hidden key blade. This is a way to unlock your vehicle through the driver's door if the key fob battery is dead or has been lost.

How to Start Your Vehicle

Note: Some older Volvos use a different battery one called the CR2025. CR2025 batteries have 7 tenths of one millimeter less than CR2032 So you'll need to be extra cautious when replacing your battery.
