The robots also feature a feature called Carpet Boost that increases its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on floors that were bare They are also adept at cleaning dog hair. They do have some flaws however, which prevent them from being our first choice. One of the flaws of the Q5 is that its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to get stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.
Still, it's very good for those who want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also quiet and can be used while you're at work or in school. The only thing it's missing that you can't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective in mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying dock, though. If you want to change the mopping pad for a dry one in just a few seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that can sweep floors. It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically fills up its base, and it supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature that we haven't seen on other robot vacuum/mop combination.
3. IRobot Roomba X40
With a sleek, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba than the competition's boxy units, this mop and robot vacuum is among the most attractive designs in our tests. The latest model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It has advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads on its own).
It's the only robot vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 in our testing due to a mix of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that is fully self-refill and empty its base station, and it boasts industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It has an easy mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only downside is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This could be a problem in mornings before work, or during the night when you're trying to fall asleep.
It's also a bit costly but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient however, it will cost you more and make more noise.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best automatic vacuum robot vacuum that vacuums and mops vacuum and mop. It has a number of advanced features that help you forget your chores. If you have a larger home, it is worth selecting a model with a spot or zone cleaning mode. This allows you to inform the robot of which area of your home must be cleaned using the app or voice control. If you have furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. Additionally the recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is great for busy families.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you would imagine from its price. It's a pro at vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured application, and a self-emptying, washable base.
The well-designed iRobot app guides you through a mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, arrange an area for cleaning or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to improve performance. The app comes with a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.
