World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Upgrades to items can be used to improve the stats of an item. Depending on the type of upgrade you choose, it can increase the rarity of an item or mark Level and increase other stats.
Upgrades to gear in The War Within requires a certain number of Flightstones and Crests, and each item comes with an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next item by a certain amount.
Item Level
When an item is upgraded, its stats are increased in value. This is the sum of all the upgraded benefits (attack magic attack, attack defense). Upgrades can be expensive dependent on who you employ and what you do. This is because of how many perks have to be replaced to allow the item to get upgraded.
It can also be used as a gating requirement while queueing for raids, dungeons and scenarios. It can also be used as a gating requirement while queueing for dungeons, scenarios and raids, and to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear (since PvP is capped at the lower levels). The average level of the item can be found on the character sheet.
When deciding to purchase or sell gear players can evaluate the level of an item. It's a measure of the item's condition and its quality. The level of an item can be used to compare items when examining a vendor's inventory.
The level of the item can be checked by pressing the ALT key on PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will show the full description of the item, as well as its level. It can also be located by hovering over an item using the mouse cursor and typing /itemlevel in chat.
There are a variety of theories on how the level of an item is determined. One theory is that the level is a number derived from a formula that calculates how much an item's stats are worth. It considers the fact that different perks have different worth and that gems in sockets add to the value of the item overall. This can result in a calculated value for the item's level, which is typically close to Blizzard's actual item level.
This isn't the only thing that affects the value of an item. The degree of the area in which the item dropped can also change its stats. For example it can increase the item's haste, or crit rating. Items dropped in higher-level instances will have a higher ilvl.
Item Stats
The stats of an item can make or break an item for players. The game uses them in a variety of ways to encourage players not to limit themselves to one weapon and to encourage players to experiment with other weapons. The stat mods on a weapon boost the base stats. These stat mods are then boosted by a player's level.
The upgrades to items add by increasing certain stats on the item. The rarity of an item determines its cost of upgrading. For instance, a gray or white item will only be upgraded once, whereas an item with the rare levels will be upgraded multiple times, at higher costs.
Affixes are another way to alter the stats of an item. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player, and come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Affixes are used to give items extra damage or special capabilities (such as the ability to revive dead or reduce cooling downs) or to distinguish them by putting a name on them.
All affixes can be currently re-rolled by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button. This process will cost the player a certain amount of gold as well as items, which can be added to the upgrade gauge in the same way as other options for rerolling.
Players can upgrade an item by a specific stat, or reroll the affixes. The range of stats determined by the item's level. However each item will include at least one stat in that range unless they are an item that is unique, or the item is a God Roll from a boss in a raid.
Another thing that could be changed is the option to upgrade equipment without having to reroll the attaches, or select which stats to boost. Like the base equipment, it will have to be done per item and the item comparison interface wouldn't display all possible stats at once.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player stacks up to increase the chances of item discoveries as well as the properties that appear on loot drops, and the intensity of the properties. However, it doesn't directly affect damage or ability to upgrade items. It gives players the chance to upgrade their equipment earlier in the game. This is more useful in early game runs because players tend to put defenses and weapon scaling over raw damage gains.
Luck can also increase the chances of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith’s overall chance of upgrading, which increase with each level of the item Upgrader kit. They can also be enhanced by using anti-materials like a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
Weapons, shields, and armor can be created or spawned using the Luck property, with a default value of 40. These items can be enhanced by golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to give +40 Luck, or to increase the luck of an item up to 140.
Certain items, like the weapon that is infused with hollow can also be outfitted to increase the damage of any ability that deals damage by five percent. These items are available at the store or made using the correct ingredients.
item upgrading Failure
Item upgrades are expensive and not every upgrade will be successful. However, there are cash shop items which allow players to increase their chance of success or stop them from losing an item in the event that the upgrade is unsuccessful.
The rate of success of an upgrade is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of completing the upgrade successfully and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The percentage of success can only be increased as much, and the chance that the upgrade item will fail cannot exceed 100%.
The performance of an can be affected by the Luck of that item. Each item has an average success rate of 25%, and every item with Luck increases that chance by five percent.
It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the items in the inventory which means that enchantment glints and other effects may be obscured by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
