One of them is that the Q5's navigation doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to get caught up in shoes and socks and can't navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. Also, it doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of the room.

It's still a great deal for those whose home or office has a lot of bare flooring and you're looking to save some money. Additionally, it's quiet and you can use it when you're at work or school. The only thing it's missing that you can't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on very well and can't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 does have a self-emptying dock, though. If you're in need of it mop, the mopping pad can be changed for a wet one in just a few seconds.

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also has self-emptying dustbins, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, but it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This high-performing mop and vacuum combination utilizes advanced sensors to dodge obstacles and pet waste, and it learns your home's layout over time to provide more efficient cleaning. This mop and vacuum combination features a sleek, circular look that looks much like a Roomba model than the bulky models from the competition. It's among our most attractive looking robot cleaner vacuums. The newest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent model, with features that are cutting-edge like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum to score 100% in our testing, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured lighting system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It comes with a simple mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that it's loud that could be a problem if you run it in the morning prior to work, or at night when you attempt to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, though it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally capable and look better. If you're willing with a bit more noise and a little more cost, this is a very capable two-in-one that should delight most.

The smart robot uses an array of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and spot obstacles, making it more efficient than its top competitors. It also has a front mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time, though this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was often confused with obstructions or power cords.

The vacuum cleaner comes with the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to accomplish the task. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and also alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home in accordance with the amount of dirt they tend to be.

For bigger homes it's worth looking for a model with spot or zone cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean one particular area of your home via the app or voice controls.
