WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by 3. A random extra substat is also increased with every upgrade.

The more modernized gear generally has a greater value for trade regardless of whether it has low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or a very high stat variance (like the eth titan weapons). Upgrades are less valuable for the latter due to the requirement to roll a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be made on any kind of armor or weapons. The item used to upgrade the item is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be applied to enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended to visit the upgrader once every couple of weeks to keep your equipment up-to-date.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the level of the item, but they will always be cheaper than buying new equipment. For instance upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points, while purchasing the same item from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapon, armor, tool and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased from item upgrade upgraders NPCs in a variety of currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased, it can be used on any weapon or tool using the help of button, which will display an image of the item when it is upgraded when the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrades varies based on the slot of the item and the current item level, with weapons costing more than bracers or gloves, for example. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Certain upgrades provide discounts on Flightstones. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain level, it can be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of the two currencies.

Many locations offer item upgraders, including the main Island and some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount as well as a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases depending on the amount of items being upgraded, and can be boosted by having players complete specific achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at start unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. Instead, the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades are acquired via a variety of means which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3 the upgrade system was altered a bit, with some new features added. Once a player has upgraded to a certain level of item for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level, will cost less. This applies even if the items are from an entirely different set of equipment.

The amount of Valorstones required for upgrades is decreased, and the discount is affixed to all accounts. Similarly, the amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players achieve certain achievement milestones.

Crests

When it comes to upgrading gear in WoW, players have a couple of choices. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more specific and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are a crucial component of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System that was introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

First, you must be aware that crests are only available for gear of a certain rank. Each rank has distinct upgrade paths. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade route costs 15 crests while the most complicated can require as much as 20 crests, based on the type of equipment being upgraded.

Players can obtain crests by completing content of the appropriate level, which means walking around and doing outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, raids or dungeons of any difficulty for higher-tier items or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons for endgame gear. Crests can be exchanged at an item level upgrade upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to get the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.

Using these new currencies isn't too difficult, but the system will introduce a few changes to the overall upgrade process. For instance, when an item upgrading reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change lets players upgrade their equipment to the highest level possible on all of their characters rather than relying on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests in a wise manner, as they have only one purpose. For instance it's a good idea to utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests on the best equipment you have and save Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you plan to make. This is particularly applicable to rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character, which can only be eligible to benefit from the account-wide discount if all slots are full of high-quality equipment.
