The 10 Scariest Things About Robots That Vacuum And Mop
robots that vacuum and mop (see post)
Robots that clean and vacuum offer the convenience of cleaning dry and wet messes in one session, without having to switch between devices. They can also save space when compared to two separate units, particularly in smaller living areas.
A good combination bot will have excellent navigation and obstacle avoidance. Look for models with docks that allow them to automatically empty their bins, replenish their water tanks and machine-wash the mopping pads.
1. Eufy S1 Pro
It's among the easiest robots to set up that we've tested. Unpacking is easy and the quick-start manual gets you up and running in no time with the complete dust bag, water tank and hard floor solution.
The S1 Pro is a powerful small machine that can mops up a storm and is a great vacuum cleaner too. Its mops spin at high speeds and can apply 2.2 pounds (1kg) of force, allowing for quick removal of dirt, pet hair and dried sticky spills. The vacuum cleaner comes with four power settings, as well as a selection of attachments and brushes and an intuitive app which lets you choose the type of cleaning you'd like for each room.
For example, you can choose to have the robot vacuum best take care of a thorough clean-up in the living and kitchen but be careful with the spare bedroom. The S1 Pro's front collision sensors and smart navigation technology are also excellent as the robot is capable of detecting tiny obstacles that other models have difficulty overcoming. Its only issue is that the robot is known to smash into walls and objects at a high speed. However an inspection of the history of cleaning on the app will tell you exactly what the robot done, where it is traveling, and what obstacles it has encountered or avoided.
A large LCD screen on the docking station informs the maintenance tasks that are required, such as emptying the debris tray, and cleaning the dirty water tank. It's also able to mix detergent automatically into the water tank, by using a 600ml bottle filled with Eufy's own solution.
Both the S1 Pro mop and vacuum have a long running time. The mop can operate for 184 mins in Quiet Mode, and the vacuum can last for 136 minutes in standard mode, before needing recharging or returning to the base. The app is simple to use and intuitive and lets you view all the details of the cleaning.
2. Roborock S8 Pro Ultra
The Roborock S8 Pro Ultra is the most recent version of the company's top robot vacuum and mop. In contrast to the model of last year this one has two agitators in its mopping pad which significantly enhances its carpet cleaning abilities. The S8 Pro Ultra also has enhanced suction power, which allows it to remove small hairs and other debris that other robotic cleaners might be unable to pick up.
Like the other two Roborock models I've tested the S8 Pro Ultra has a reactive 3D obstacle avoidance and infrared technology that can help to avoid furniture, walls and other obstacles. The S8 Pro Ultra goes one step further by incorporating a dual-camera that can identify objects, determining if they're walls or other surfaces. It will then automatically alter its path and clean around the objects without a pause.
It's the most expensive model I've tested, but it also has the most features. Its sleek, angular style is striking and has only three physical buttons which include the power button which also resumes cleaning; a mop button that doubles as a child lock and a home button to return the robot to its dock. The hinged lid can be opened to reveal a 350ml dustbin as well as a 200ml of water tank. The water tank automatically emptys and the bin auto-refills.
The only downside I've found with this model is that its VibraRise mop pad mount isn't movable. It is possible to replace the mopping cloth if required, but it's not easy to remove the mount for manual washing. I've noticed that any plush carpet that the robot passes will be in contact with the rough Velcro-like fastener system on the mount, and that can cause scratches.
The S8 Pro Ultra is equipped with a range of intelligent features, including support for Google Home and Amazon Alexa. You can configure and manage these using the Roborock app, which is also the home of its maps and advanced mopping settings. The app lets you schedule cleanings and track the battery's life. You'll need to jump through a few steps to enable voice control on this model. It's a shame, considering how well-performing it is otherwise.
