Upgrades to an item are a way to boost the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade it can raise an item's Mark level or Rarity and boost additional stats.

Item Level

When an item gets upgraded, its basic stats improve in value. This is the sum of the perks that are leveled up (attack magic attack and defense). The level of an item is a popular measurement of power and can be seen on all tooltips for items. It also serves to limit how much PvP gear players can wear as PvP is restricted at a lower level. Players can see their average level of item upgrading on their character sheet.

Using the item level can help players evaluate the strength of equipment when choosing to buy or sell. It's a sign of the item's damage and quality. The level of an item upgrader mod can be used to evaluate items when examining the inventory of a vendor.

The level of the item can be viewed by pressing the ALT key on your PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will show the full description of the item, including its value. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing in /itemlevel chat.

There are several theories about how the item level calculation is done. One theory is that the item level is a number that comes from a formula which calculates the amount an item's stats are worth. Item upgrades add to that by boosting certain stats on the item. The rarity of an item determines the cost of upgrading. For example, a grey or white item will only be upgraded once, whereas items with rare tiers will be upgraded several times, at higher costs.

Another method of altering the stats of an item is to use affixes. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player and are available in all shapes and sizes. The affixes are used to give items extra damage or other special abilities (such as reviving dead or reducing cooling downs) or to distinguish them by naming them.

Currently, all affixes can be rerolled by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button with circles arrows. This procedure will cost the player a specific amount of gold as well as items, which can be added to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as other rerolling options.

In addition to Rerolling affixes and rerolls, players can also choose which of the available stats to keep on an item when it is upgraded. The range of stats is determined by the item's level. However, all items will include at least one stat in the same range, unless it's a unique item, or a God Roll from a raid boss.

Another thing that could be altered by adding the option to upgrade item the equipment without having to reroll the affixes or choosing which stats to boost. Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player can increase the chance of finding items and the properties that are created by loot and the strength of these properties. It does not, however, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives the player the chance to upgrade their equipment earlier in the game. This is more advantageous in the early game, because players tend to put weapon scaling and defenses above raw damage gains.

Luck can also boost the likelihood of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade probability that increases with each level and can be further increased by using an anti-material, such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields and weapons have the default Luck value of 40. These items can be augmented with golden ingots or spined leather (depending on the material they are made of) to add another 40 luck or to boost the luck of the item to 140.

Certain items, such as the Hollow-infused weapon, can also be equipped to increase the damage of any skill that is able to deal damage by 5percent. These items can be bought at the store or made using the correct ingredients.

Item Failure

Upgrades to items are a costly process and not all upgrades will succeed. However, there are some cash shop items which allow players to increase their chance of success or stop them from losing an item if the upgrade is unsuccessful.

The success rate of an upgrade can be seen in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the chance of successfully upgrading that item, and it can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations on the extent to which the success rates can be improved, and the overall chance of an upgrade failing can't be greater than 100%..

The Luck of an item may influence the effectiveness of an upgrade. Every item has a base success rate of 25%, and every item that has Luck increases that chance by 5percent.

Note that upgrades to items are rendered above the items in the inventory which means that enchantment glints and other effects may be obscured by them.
