Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade

Item upgrade, also called "upping," improves an item's stats. Each upgrade increment boosts the stats linearly.

Players can recycle six items at a time to gauge each item's upgraded component. The cost of recycling items scales with their rarity and item level.

Upgrade components

In Guild Wars 2, an item upgrade is a way to increase the stats on your weapon and armor. This can be achieved in a variety of ways, including by using upgrade components or by increasing the rarity or mark level. Many items can also be reforged to increase their value.

This is the highest value that the glyph can improve a stat by but not the amount it will actually increase the stat by. The actual value of the glyph is determined by the tier and the quality of the item you're in awe of it.

The majority of upgrade components that are slotted into items can't be repaired or replaced without removing the gear in question, with the exception of legendary equipment and upgrades. If you do have a non-useful rune or glyph that has not yet been added to your gear, you can move it to another piece of equipment by utilizing the Upgrade Glyphs context menu on the Glyphs panel.
