Rerolling
A player can roll an item upgrade (redirected here) in Diablo 4. This is done through the Level Up mechanic, which stops the game and shows the four randomly selected upgrades. The player can choose one of the upgrades and then continue the battle. Rerolling costs the same as a regular Level Up. However players should be cautious when choosing an upgrade because they won't know what the new stats will be until the item has been changed.
An item's upgrades are determined by the item's tier and rarity. Each level of an upgrade increases the item's base power by +3. An additional stat that is random can also be enhanced along with the primary bonus. Furthermore, each stage of an item's upgrade boosts the recycle value of its extra stats. Rerolling allows players to alter the stats of weapons and armor.
In the beginning of the game, rerolling is a common strategy. Many players spend gold to reroll units up to 3 stars, which could aid them in climbing the ranks faster. This method, often referred to as hyperolling by players looking to improve their game could be a great option.
To reroll a item, players first need to unlock the Reroll Upgrade from the shop. The player can choose the Reroll upgrade at the bottom of their Level Up menu after the upgrade has been unlocked. The player can roll 10 times per battle. The item's weight will remain the same after rerolling but its base power and upgrades will be reset. After rolling, the item can still be transformed.

In general, weapons have a more value in trade when upgraded to the maximum level due to their higher base damage. However, there are some weapons that offer a high trade value even if they are not upgraded because they offer useful stats that are appropriate for certain models (e.g. Whistan's Shield is a good shield for FB Sorcs. There are also some exclusive and set items that don't need upgrading because they have inherently minimal requirements or benefits from upgrading (e.g. Goldwrap, Naj's puzzler staff.

The ideal scenario is for the game to provide more information about upgrades in its compare interface, such as "X stats gained, X stats lost." However, that is impractical to implement due to how much complexity goes into the process of comparison. There's not enough space to implement it properly within the UI.
An alternative solution is to write an application that checks the upgrade requirements of an item before allowing it to be upgraded. This is a good option for systems with an extremely small number of upgradeable items and a few upgrade dependencies. A sword can be upgraded from Sword+1 to Sword+2. A script could look up the Item Definition attribute for each upgrade and then create an Item Status of "upgraded" to indicate that the upgrade is valid.
This method is more flexible than the previous two however it requires additional code. It's also not the Best item upgrade choice for very complex systems.
