Upgrades can boost the value of armors, weapons and rings. They also increase bonuses such as PvE damage and crit chance.

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be slotted into weapons, armor, and trinkets to provide a stat bonus or extra effect when they're used. They can be acquired through crafting, purchasing from vendors, trading or looting. Certain upgrades have unique cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be placed in equipment with a slot for them. The item must be at least upgraded to the blue level for a component to be used. Unlike other mods, upgrade components can only be used one time; they cannot be applied multiple times or replaced with upgrades. Infusions and enrichments are a particular type of upgrade component that is designed for non-amulet ascended and legendary equipment, as well as some of the back items that are not ascending. Infusions and enrichments can be recovered by salvaging gear from the ascended, or completing an elite mission in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

A prefix or suffix may be added to an upgrade, changing the name of the item upgrader it's used on (for instance, 'Canthan Armor Insignia,' becomes Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades boost the Mark Level or Rarity, allowing players to make stronger versions of the equipment with the smallest amount of Upgrade Crystals than is required to reach the same level of upgrade using normal methods.

A 'boost upgrade' can modify the attack or defense properties of a weapon, or armor. These upgrades can be crafted from the Portative Forging Station once the player has completed the cutscene and defeats the Crazed mechanic. These upgrades can be purchased by purchasing them from the cash shop or by obtaining them from enemies when upgrading other gear.

The player is able to have the maximum of five boost upgrades at one time. Each upgrade increases the probability that a better-quality version of the item will be available in the next reset. This gives players a reason to upgrade their gear, even if they are unsure what can be improved upon a reset.

The process of upgrading an item could be costly and it is likely that the item will become obsolete, or even break, if the upgrade fails. Upgrade Crystals and assist powders are also destroyed when an upgrade fails. Cash shop items can be used to minimize or eliminate the possibility of failure. Certain upgrades also provide a bonus if they are reinserted.

Glyphs

Glyphs are upgrade components that can be placed in special sockets on the Paragon Board. Glyphs boost the power of nodes within a radius, including any pre-existing affixes. Glyphs can be upgraded in various ways, and we recommend getting them to level 15 as soon as possible.

It is commonplace to see in the endgame that putting Glyphs is the best way to upgrade your equipment. They are the only upgrade component which can be upgraded to level 15 and offer a significant boost to your power on the Paragon Board.

Glyphs, the sole upgrade component which can be removed without restriction and replaced with no restrictions, are the most common. The only exception is legendary equipment that requires a Black Lion Salvage Kit to salvage and replace.

Each Glyph has a particular range of values it can improve a stat by. The value is displayed when you choose the Glyph in your inventory. You can decide to replace it with a Glyph of the same rank, or a higher rank, which will increase the overall value of the Glyph.

There are Glyphs in the Black Lion Trading Post, as part of a Gem Store purchase or bundle with certain gathering tools that are unlimited-use as well as through Faction Crypt raids. Every Faction Crypt has the chance of dropping one of the many Glyphs and there are some rare glyphs that can be obtained as drops from any of the four Faction Crypts.

Once you have obtained the desired Glyphs You will have to attach them to your equipment. Each Glyph will grant a distinct bonus that will boost the stats of a specific set of nodes that are within a radius of the Glyph. This will either be +40 for one of your primary stats or +25 for two of your secondary stats based on the Glyph.

Glyphs increase the number of nodes connected to them, therefore it is recommended to place Glyphs in the most important locations on the Graph. This will increase the impact. For example that a Druid should try to position their Glyphs near their primary damage nodes but also be sure to place them near the most critical damage nodes, too.

Leveling

The item upgrading system allows players to improve the effectiveness of certain items by placing upgraded components into them. This is commonly known as "upping". Each upgradeable item has a level that determines its final upgraded stats. Upgraded items can be leveled up to a maximum of 385. Each level of item requires different components, and the cost of upgrading increase with each level.

Certain upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient is obtained from the completion of Upgrade Recipes. These recipes are available in the upgrade tab of a crafting table, or purchased from some NPCs. Each Upgrade Recipe that is completed yields a certain number of Technology points. These points can be used for the upgrading of an item. Once enough points are earned, you will be eligible to claim the upgrade and get its extra bonuses.

When an item is upgraded by a player, the base item level upgrade is replaced with a different item of the same type. This means that the same piece of armor will be transformed into a weapon or shield when upgraded. The new item will also come with a bonus of its own. This could be a problem because it can cause the item to become more expensive if you do not require it.

If the player has enough tokens, they can roll the upgrade of their item. This causes the item to be exchanged for a new one, which will come with the level 1 base, and a totally different set of bonus bonuses. Each item can be upgraded up to five times except for hero gear, which can be upgraded eight times. Each time you upgrade an object, it has a chance of failing. The probability of failure increases as you move beyond the maximum number. Failures will cause the item to revert back to its original state, which will force the user to spend more materials than they would had they stopped upgrading at the maximum number of upgrades.

If an item isn't upgraded the experience bar in the bar for growth will be reset to zero. The item will also lose any bonuses it earned, such as chances to be crit, attack damage, or other effects (such as a higher healing rate over time, or reloading speed). The player will be able to use their weapon or armor even after the failure.

Whenever an item is upgraded the upgrades are applied in order from the lowest to the highest. This means that the weapon that is upgraded gains a crit chance increase, the increase will be applied before any damage from attacks increases. The amount of resources required to upgrade an item is dependent on its rarity score and upgrade slot count.
