The robots that vacuum and mop also come with the feature of Carpet Boost that increases its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests of floors with no carpet, and they are particularly adept at cleaning hair from dogs. However, they do have a few flaws however, which hinder them from being our first choice. One of them is that the Q5's navigation doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology and is therefore prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of an area.

Still, it's very good for those who want to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. Additionally, it's quiet and you can use it when you're at work or at school. The only thing it doesn't have that you can't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective at mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does have a self-emptying dock, though. And, if you have to, you can swap the mopping pad to a dry one in seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into an elegant, compact package. Its smart cleaning maps and nimble navigation make it easy to clean and effective in tackling larger particles such as pet hair. It also has a powerful suction and self-emptying bin. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets but it falls behind some competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensors that help it keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time to ensure better cleaning. You can alter the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones with the well-designed app. Its battery life is average in comparison to similar models.

If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to remove and extend its mop. This will help prevent cross contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog socks, turds, and bundles of cables.

It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically emptys into its base, and supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is a feature we haven't seen before on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With a sleek circular design that appears like a regular Roomba rather than the boxy units, this mop and robot vacuum is one of the most attractive looking models in our tests. The latest model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It has advanced features such as enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that scored an exemplary 10/10 in our testing due to a mix of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It has a simple mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in the mornings before work or in the evening when you're trying to sleep.

It's also quite expensive, but it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are similarly capable and better-looking. If you're willing to live with a bit more noise and some extra cost, this is a very efficient two-in-one device that should delight most.

Like Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes charge of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot uses the combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and spot obstacles, making it more efficient than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time but this was not reliable in our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vac works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home in accordance with the degree of dirt they are.

For larger homes, it's worth opting for a model that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a particular area of your home by using the app or via voice commands. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. For busy families, a recharge feature and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off could be very beneficial.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price would suggest. It does a stellar job vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion, which does a better job cleaning than the other robot mop cleaners we've examined. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through a mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, plan a spot clean or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to improve performance.
