Examine your robot's brush regularly for tangled debris and hair. Wash them if needed. Some models will also empty the onboard dustbin and deposit it in a larger bin located at the base. This helps reduce the amount of fine dust released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the pricier Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've test. They are equipped with motors that are top of the line and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other iRobots with premium features (including the top model), they use intelligent mapping to design precise floorplans and avoid household obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also come with Carpet Boost, a feature that boosts its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.

Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our bare floor tests, and they're particularly adept at cleaning pet hair. There are some issues, however, that prevent them from being our top option. For one, the Q5's navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to become entangled in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tightly packed rooms very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.

Still, it's very good, especially if you want to save money on a iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and can be used while you're at work, or going to school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming that is offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't stay on well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has self-emptying docks, however. And, if you have to, you can switch the mopping pad for a dry one in just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that can also mop floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps and nimble navigation make it easy to clean and effective in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with a powerful suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets, but it falls behind some competitors in terms of deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensors to keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time and provide cleaner and more efficient cleaning. The app lets you customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. It has a battery life that is comparable to other models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to remove and extend its mop. This helps prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be utilized to reach under furniture that is low and along baseboards. However, it's not equipped with the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ as well as the iRobot Combo j9+.

In tests during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop in the market to clean an entire home, and it did so with 66 percent of its battery left. It also did an excellent job cleaning a range of floors and rooms with mixed flooring types, including some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top-notch and it swiftly eluded fake dog socks, turds, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically fills up its base, and also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after vacuuming it, something we've not seen on other robotic autonomous vacuum/mop combos.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

This robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular design that appears more like the regular Roomba model than the bulky models from the rivals. It's one of our most attractive looking robot vacuum best vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It comes with advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads on its own).

It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is due to a mix of modern sensors, including a restructured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

As with other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, offering a simple mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only drawback is that the X40 still a loud unit. This can be a problem in the mornings prior to work or at night when you're trying to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive however, not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally powerful and more attractive. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's extremely powerful however, it's more expensive and produce more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot vacuum cleaner mop and vacuum. It has a range of advanced features that will help you forget your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner that is similar to Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically empty the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, as well as washes and dries mop pads.

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and detect obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its premium competitors. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to get the job done. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vacuum works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home in accordance with how dirty they are.

If you have a bigger home, it is worth selecting a model with a the option of cleaning zones or spots. This lets you tell the robot which area of your home needs to be cleaned with the help of an app or voice control. A stairway mode is useful if you own a lot furniture. For families with busy schedules, a recharge feature and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off can be extremely useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more advanced than its price would suggest. It has a great vacuuming performance and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad and a rotating motion that is more efficient than most mop cleaners for robots that we've tested. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying base that can be washed.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, set up an area for cleaning or to prioritize your most filthy rooms for better performance. The app also gives access to a host of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, meaning it can reach corners and under furniture more easily. It is equipped with an impressive 8,000 Pascal suction as well as sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean which will thoroughly clean an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It is capable of vacuuming but is more prone to get caught on low thresholds and is a bit noisier than the other top robot vacuums we've tested. It also has a less user-friendly app and a small base station that doesn't double as an emptying bin.
