Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our bare floor tests They're also particularly adept in removing pet hair. They do have some flaws however, which hinder them from being our top choice. For one, the Q5's navigation doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology which means it's susceptible to get caught up in shoes and socks and can't navigate rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.
It's still a good deal, especially if your office or home has a lot of bare floors and you're looking to save some money. It's also very quiet and operates when you're at work or school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming that is offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle however. If you're required to, the mopping pad can be replaced with a wet one in minutes.
2. iRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into a compact, sleek package. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also features an impressive suction system and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, but it isn't as effective as some of its competitors in terms of deep cleaning.
This highly efficient mop and vacuum combo makes use of advanced sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste and it learns your home's layout over time for more efficient cleaning. You can change the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones through the well-designed app. It has a battery life that is comparable to other models.
When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to remove and extend its mop. This will help prevent cross contamination. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming it, something we've not seen on other robotic auto vacuum and mop/mop combos.
3. Roomba X40 from iRobot
The robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular design that appears much like a Roomba model than the bulky models of the competitors. It is one of our most attractive robot vacuums best vacuums. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also the most intelligent. It has advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads on its own).
It's the only robotic vacuum/mop to score a perfect 10 in our testing thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.
As with other iRobot models as well, the X40 is easy to use, offering a simple mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This could be a problem in mornings prior to work or at night when you are trying to sleep.
It's also a bit costly but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally impressive and attractive. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful however, it's more expensive and create more noise.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot mop and vacuum. It has a number of advanced features that will make you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes charge of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, washes and dries its mop pads.
The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floorplans and identify obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its top competitors. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards however this was not completely foolproof in our tests, and was often confused with obstructions or power cords.
Its vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vac works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning robot mop and vacuum for various areas of the house depending on how dirty they tend to be.
For larger houses it's recommended to choose models with zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot vacuums best to clean a particular area of your house by using the app or voice controls. The well-designed iRobot app guides you through an initial mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, or to organize an automatic spot-clean. You can also use it to rank your most filthy areas for greater efficiency. The app also provides access to a host of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, which means it is able to reach corners and under furniture more easily. It also has a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for hair of pets. You can also create a spot-clean that scours a specific area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble adorable eyes. It's good at vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to getting caught on low thresholds and is a bit noisier than the other top robot vacuums we've tested. It also has a less user-friendly app and a small base station that doesn't double as an emptying bin.
