1. Roomba Q5 Pro
The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive sibling the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we have tested. They have motors that are top-of-the line and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other iRobots with premium features (including the top model) they employ intelligent mapping to design precise floorplans and avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. The robots also have Carpet Boost, a feature that boosts its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.
Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our floor tests that test for bare floors and are particularly effective in removing pet hair. They do have some flaws however, which hinder them from being our first choice. One of the flaws of the Q5 is its navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to become stuck on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.
However, it's a good choice, especially if you want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also extremely quiet and can be used while you are at work or at school. The only thing it's missing that you don't get in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does have a self-emptying dock, though. And, if you need to, you can switch the mopping pad for a dry one in just a few seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into an elegant, compact package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying bin as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover (written by posteezy.com) for carpets, although it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensor technology that can keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time and ensure more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average when compared to similar models.
When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to take off and extend its mops. This will help prevent cross contamination. Its flex arm can also be utilized to reach under furniture that is low and along baseboards. It doesn't perform as well on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
In tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete the entire house with 66 percent of its battery left. It also did an excellent job cleaning robot mop and vacuum a range of rooms and floors with mixed flooring types, including some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top-notch, and it nimbly avoided fake dog turds, socks, shoes and cables.
It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically empties into its base, and also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after vacuuming it, something we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combinations.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
With an elegant, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba rather than the boxes this mop and robot vacuum is one of the most attractive designs in our evaluations. The latest model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It features advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).
It's the only robot vacuum/mop to score an exemplary 10/10 in our evaluations thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, which include a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.
The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has an intuitive mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only downside is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in mornings before work, or at night when you're trying to fall asleep.
It's also a bit costly but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. If you're willing to put up with a little more noise and a little more cost this is a capable two-in-one that should delight most.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with many advanced features that let you get rid of your chores. Similar to Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes charge of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, washes and dries its mop pads.
The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and detect obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time but this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.
The vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vacuum works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home in accordance with how dirty they tend to be.
If you have a bigger home, it is worth selecting a robot vacuum best that comes with spot or zone cleaning mode. This allows you to inform the robot of which area of your home needs to be cleaned with the help of an app or voice control. If you have furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. For busy families, a recharge feature and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to resume where it left off can be extremely useful.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price would suggest. It has a great vacuuming performance, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad that uses a reciprocating motion that is cleaner than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tested. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.
The iRobot application is designed to guide you through the mapping process which collects information about your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, arrange an area for cleaning robot mop and vacuum or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms to ensure better performance. The app also gives access to a variety of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it can get to corners and under furniture more easily. It also has a strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that thoroughly cleans the area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like cute eyes. It does a good job vacuuming but is more prone to getting caught on low thresholds and is more noisy than the other top robotic vacuums we've tried. It also has a less user-friendly app and a small base station that isn't able to double as a bin for emptying.
