It's thus susceptible to become stuck on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.

However, it's a good choice, especially if you want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also extremely quiet and can be used while you are at work or at school. The only thing it's missing that you don't get in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does have a self-emptying dock, though. And, if you need to, you can switch the mopping pad for a dry one in just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into an elegant, compact package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying bin as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. The latest model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It features advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's the only robot vacuum/mop to score an exemplary 10/10 in our evaluations thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, which include a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has an intuitive mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and detect obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time but this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.

The vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vacuum works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home in accordance with how dirty they tend to be.

If you have a bigger home, it is worth selecting a robot vacuum best that comes with spot or zone cleaning mode.
